Tameside Early Years Best Practice Partnership EYFS MATHEMATICS TRAINING Focus: Exploring Number in EYFS Target audience: All EYFS practitioners from maintained and non-maintained settings Date: Tuesday 18th November 2014, 9.30am - 4:00pm Tutor: Lindsay Shaw, Abel Education Limited Venue: Canon Burrows CE Primary School, Oldham Road, Ashton-Under-Lyne OL7 9ND This course will focus on the progressive development of children’s understanding of number, with a focus on: The use of mathematical imagery numbers and the relationship between them an understanding of how to develop children’s early mental calculation skills beginning with counting in ones early arithmetic and beginning to use ‘non-count-by-ones’ strategies bridging 5 As part of the afternoon session you will have the opportunity to ‘Come and See’ at Canon Burrows and observe children in the EYFS developing their understanding of numbers and counting skills using the strategies and resources explored throughout the morning.
