from the Tameside Early Years Best Practice Partnership.
This brochure offers professional development activities
for Early Years and Childcare Practitioners working in
maintained and non-maintained schools and PVI settings.
We are a network of primary schools in
Tameside with shared values and aims who are
committed to outstanding practice in the Foundation
Stage. Working in a strong partnership we have drawn
on each other ’ s success to ensure a consistently
outstanding approach within EYFS to meet the needs
of all children within a range of settings.

COME AND SEE SESSIONS provide practitioners with the opportunity to directly observe, question
and experience High Quality Early Years Practice in a real context. Observe outstanding practice
delivered by real teachers in a range of settings with time for discussion and reflection.

EYFS MATHEMATICS TRAINING
Focus: Exploring Number in EYFS
Target audience: All EYFS practitioners from maintained and non-maintained settings
Date: Tuesday 18th November 2014, 9.30am - 4:00pm

Venue: Canon Burrows CE Primary School, Oldham Road, Ashton-Under-Lyne OL7 9ND
This course will focus on the progressive development of children’s understanding of number, with a focus on:
 The use of mathematical imagery
 numbers and the relationship between them
 an understanding of how to develop children’s early mental calculation skills beginning with counting in ones
 early arithmetic and beginning to use ‘non-count-by-ones’ strategies bridging 5
As part of the afternoon session you will have the opportunity to ‘Come and See’ at Canon Burrows
and observe children in the EYFS developing their understanding of numbers and counting skills using the
strategies and resources explored throughout the morning.

EYFS WRITING COURSE
Target audience: All EYFS practitioners from maintained and non-maintained settings
Tutor: Hayley Wynne, EY2P
Venue: Seymour Road Academy, Seymour Road South, Manchester M11 4PR
*Day 1: Required skills and knowledge to be a writer Date: Friday 24th October 2014 9:30am- 3:30pm
Transcription and composition; developmental stages of writing; EYFS to NC 2014 Y1 programme of study;
tracking and analysing progress; pupil, group and cohort level; making accurate assessments from baseline through to Y1
and quality teaching and learning in phonics.
*Day 2: Creating a quality learning environment Date: Friday 28th November 2014 9:30am - 3:30pm
Writing workshop; large mark making opportunities outside; purposeful writing opportunities indoors and outdoors;
creating quality displays that celebrate and extend writing skills; ensuring progression through EYFS to ensure ongoing
progress; the role of the adult; parental engagement and strategies to develop fine motor skills and handwriting.
*Day 3: Talk for Writing (fiction and non-fiction) Date: Friday 23rd January 2014 9:30am- 3:30pm


Focus: Guided reading and phonics in EYFS
Target audience: All EYFS practitioners from maintained and non-maintained settings
Date: Wednesday 8th October, 3:45-5:15pm
