SHEPHERD AND SHEEP
During the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, He taught
many spiritual lessons using every day circumstances to explain
these truths to His followers. Everyone in the Middle East knew
about sheep and shepherds. Sheep have remained a source
of food and the shepherds in Israel today still take their Áocks out on the mountains
to Ànd good grass. Even today the Áocks are small and the shepherds know their
sheeps’ names. Our Lord used sheep as an example of His followers and the Lord
himself is the example of the shepherd. Scripture uses 3 terms to describe the work
of Jesus as He cares for His followers or “Áock.” He is the Good Shepherd, the Great
Shepherd, and the Chief Shepherd. In John 10:11, we are told by Jesus, “I am the
good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” In Hebrews 13:20,
we are told, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,
that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.” I
Peter 5:4 says, “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown
of glory that fadeth not away.” As the Great Shepherd He provides under-shepherds,
(pastors) to care for His Áocks. To these servants He will present a special reward
in recognition of their faithfulness. Under-shepherds are held accountable for their
Áocks. Hebrews 13:17 reminds us, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they
may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unproÀtable for you.”

What a trip. No matter who I saw or what I saw,
nothing was what I thought it was if you know what
I mean. They have a way of tricking you in San Francisco. Jean Stothert the Mayor of Omaha, sat by us
on the way out. By the time we landed, she had a
new vocabulary in the world of government. She said
it was too bad I wasn’t a Cornhusker because she
would have a special place in office for me. I politely
told her I don’t clean or shine shoes and I like to drink
Crown Royal so she couldn’t afford my services. I
really wonder how I might do if I ever did get elected
to something that meant something.
Our sympathy goes out to the Gus Schroeder family from Wall Lake. Gus was a true icon and a role
model for many people. His heart was bigger than life
itself and you couldn’t have asked for a better friend.
Gus will be truly missed - Thanks for the memories.
