EVENT FORMAT
LSI, a subsidiary of the Chicago based Libero Sports LLC, is a boutique sports consulting firm that
provides Strategic Consulting, Sponsorship Packaging and Player Representation services for the
sport of football in India. LSI is unique in that it is the first and so far, the only strategic football
consultancy in the country – focusing exclusively on football, an emerging sport in India, for all its
consulting, sponsorship and player representation operations.

The key challenges to be addressed are summarized here as follows:
1. Taking the tough call in time:
Success of a startup comes from how fast it can implement its existing strategy and how
quick it can respond to failures to pivot and change its strategy, before being drained for
cash resources.
2. Growing the Consulting Business:
a. A majority of the football academies are managed by large corporations as a part of
their corporate social responsibility activities. Managing these academies is not their
core business.
b. These corporations view the academies as cost centers. As a result, the managers
responsible for these academies do not get sufficient budget. They do not have the
incentive to hire outside consultants.
c. Solutions provided by LSI may take long time to implement as they have to go
through a cumbersome approval process.
d. LSI could look into possible investment by football clubs into these academies. This
way football clubs will not have to start the academies from scratch. Corporations
get their share of CSR and football clubs can get to pick their own talent by reducing
player acquisition costs.

Participation is open to all students pursuing MBA or related post graduate programs
Participation has to be in teams of 3 members.
Teams can be comprised of participants from the same college/institution or from various
colleges/institutions.

All teams must first register for the event on www.backwatersiimk.com (one registration
per team)
FORMAT & DELIVERABLES
PRELIMINARY ROUND
1. Analyse the given problem carefully and come up with a summarised presentation based on
the deliverables mentioned.
2. The submission should be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation not exceeding 13
slides including the cover slide and Appendix if any.
FINAL ROUND
Based on the submissions, the top 5 teams will be shortlisted and invited to IIM Kozhikode
(during 31st October – 2nd November to present their solution to a panel of judges. Exact
dates of the final round will be communicated to the shortlisted teams at a later point of
time.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR SCRIPT
1.
Submissions will have to be mailed to [email protected], with the subject
line “<<TeamName_Institute Name_Round1>>”.
2.
PPT (in .ppt or .pptx form) should be labelled in the format “<TeamName>_<Institute
Name>_Round1 ”

The starting slide of the PPT should contain the team name and member details (names of
team members, respective institutes, phone numbers and email IDs. *Note that no addition
data/information will be provided. All assumption/sources of data should be clearly
mentioned as footnotes to the slide. Organizers reserve right to reject entries not adhering
to the above)

There must be strictly no plagiarism/ Copyright infringements in the submissions. On
discovery of such infringements, the respective team(s) will be disqualified with immediate
effect.
Participation will be governed by the “Backwaters’14 Terms & Conditions” posted on the
website (www.iimkbackwaters.com) and may be subject to change at any time without
specific notice. The amended Terms & Conditions will be effective immediately upon being
posted on the website. It is the sole responsibility of the participants to regularly visit the
website and be informed of any changes.
The decisions of the organizers of the contest and the panel of judges will be final and
binding on all the participants.
