October April September Flintknapping Saturday, September 6th, 12:00pm-2:00pm Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for an introduction to the history of stone tools and the basics of flintknapping. Learn how breaking and splitting stone into useful tools was a vital part of Native American life in this area. Meet at the Visitor Center. Full Moon Hike Saturday, September 6th, 6:00pm-8:00pm Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for a full moon hike. Learn fun facts about the moon as the nocturnal animals of the park join us under the stars! Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot and remember to bring a flashlight. Medicinal Plants of Castlewood Canyon Wednesday, September 10th, 10:00am-11:30am Join Volunteer Naturalist Gary Schroeder as he leads you on a hike through the canyon where you will learn to identify some of the plants that may be used medicinally. Program recommended for adults only. Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot. Morning Hike in the Forest Saturday, September 13th, 8:00am-10:00am Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for a hike through the Douglas Fir forest on the west side of the park. Learn about plants, animals, and the unique habitat found within this section of Castlewood Canyon. Meet at the Falls Trailhead Parking Lot on the west side of the park.. Castlewood Canyon State Park 4th Annual Haunted Trail Friday and Saturday, October 17th and 18th, 7:00pm-9:00pm Join us for our 4rthannual Haunted Trail event! You and your family can share a frightening good time after hours at the park. Go for a guided walk along our haunted trail and enjoy a hay ride. All ages are welcome! Have you ever wondered what scary things show up after sunset at Castlewood Canyon State Park? No, not just wildlife. Ghosts from the past come out to play when it gets dark. Your $7.00 park entry fee buys you and everyone in your vehicle a haunted trail walk, a hay ride back, and a frightening good time. The Friends of Castlewood Canyon will provide a small token of appreciation for your attendance. All are welcome except the faint of heart…and please, NO pets! Castlewood Canyon 50th Anniversary Celebration Saturday, September 27th, 10:00am-3:00pm Come and celebrate with us! It’s Castlewood Canyon State Park’s 50th birthday and we want to share it with everyone. Join us for games, food and plenty of family fun. Festivities will be held on the east side of the park at the facilities near the Canyon Point Parking Lot. Microscope Hike Saturday, September 27th, 10:00am-12:00pm Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for an educational microscope hike. Hike along the Inner Canyon Trail and see the fascinating microscopic creatures from all five habitats in the park. Bring shoes that can get wet and plenty of water and sunscreen. Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot. Astronomy Night Saturday, September 27th, 7:00pm-10:00pm Join us for an evening program as we enjoy the open sky at Castlewood Canyon. Canyon Hike Sunday, September 28th, 9:00am-1:00pm Join Volunteer Naturalist Eddie Yenkinson for a 7 mile hike throughout the canyon. Enjoy the best that Castlewood Canyon has to offer. Learn about the geology, history, botany and more. Bring your lunch, sunscreen, rain gear (just in case) and plenty of water. Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot. EVERY SUNDAY! Snakes Alive Every Sunday, 1:30pm-2:15pm Join Park Ranger Lisa Naughton for a fun and exciting introduction to snakes. Come and meet our resident bull snakes, Sid and Nancy, and watch them eat their weekly meal. Meet at the Visitor Center every Sunday for this 45-minute program. Yoga in the Park Every Wednesday in September 8:30am-9:45am Align Yourself With/In Nature Join Registered Yoga Teachers for late summer yoga at Castlewood Canyon. Meet at the Pikes Peak Amphitheater for 75 minutes of luxurious breathe and movement. You can't beat the setting!! Bring a yoga mat, blanket, and plenty of water. Suggested $10.00 donation.
