I would like to Thank Tom Ackman and all the Legion Family volunteers for making the event a successful one. A very special thank you to the SAL for funding the event. At our General Membership meeting the members voted to give the legion bar a name. The bar will be called The American Legion Drop Zone Bar! The bar staff is planning a special grand Opening in the near future. I hope everyone comes out to support the event. MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP As of the 23rd of September our membership is at 68%. We need 127 members to renew for the 2015 membership year. The Department of Illinois has an incentive program to give a post that has 100% membership by 31 December 2014 one dollar for every active member. Please renew your membership as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you at our next General Membership Meeting on 22 October 2014 at 7:15 PM. Jose A. Becerra Jr. Commander AUXILIARY NEWS This year is moving quickly! Summer has flown by and now we are into a nice fall. The Girls State Alumni came to our September meeting to share their experiences. They all had a wonderful time and each of them said that it has changed their lives in one way or another. We are proud of each of the girls. We are also proud of our Juniors. Not only have they been busy working on cards for our Veterans, they have been coming up with ideas to raise funds to be able to give even more to the Veterans! It is something that the girls came up with all on their own and as the Auxiliary; we are here to support them. Look for a spaghetti dinner coming to the Hall soon. Be sure to show the girls and our Veterans your support. It is important to foster their enthusiasm so that they continue to want to be the future of the American Legion Auxiliary. At our October meeting we will be having an initiation for new members that have not been through initiation as of yet. The Auxiliary will be working with the Legion Men and the Sons to keep Legion Family Functions available to our members. As a family, we will all be a part of a committee to support one another. We hope to become closer as a family, and as we become closer we will be better able to serve our Veterans and our Members. If you need to review, update or file a VA Disability Claim, this will be your chance. We need the DD 214, any service treatment records and a current Diagnosis for the disability they may be claiming. If they are being treated at Lovell FHCC, we can obtain the current diagnosis. All interested need to call Mike Peck or his team at: 847-337-3341 or 3344 to schedule an appointment. Due to the constrained time only personnel with appointments will be seen on this date. Thank you in advance for your support American Legion Post 703 Fox Lake is hosting an IL CCW Class on 25 Oct from 9-5. Cost for either 8 or 16 Hour Required Course is $100.00. Veterans with valid DD 214 receive the 8 hour waiver, 4 hour waiver for those possessing any valid/documented NRA Sanctioned Basic/Home Defense Course or a Utah or Florida State CCW Card. You can only get a total of 8 hours waived with either DD214 or other documents stated. Second 8 hour class and or Range Qualification portion will be scheduled at your convenience.
