The Golden Bears proceeded to tie the score at two early in the second half, but the Beavers responded by scoring the game’s final four goals to take the victory. Khiry Shelton and Timmy Mueller both posted hat-trick’s in the match. Here is a list of Oregon State’s team and individual accomplishments in the game: - The win was Oregon State’s first over a ranked opponent since OSU beat No. 22 Washington 2-1 on Sept. 30, 2011 - No. 13 Cal is the highest-ranked team the Beavers have defeated since they beat No. 12 UCLA 1-0 on Oct. 9, 2005 - The game marked the first time in Oregon State history that two Beavers have had a hattrick in the same game - Prior to the match, the last Oregon State hat-trick came from Emery Welshman vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sept. 21, 2012. The last OSU hat-trick in a Pac-12 match was scored by Robbie Findley on Nov. 14, 2004 - The four-goal margin of victory was the Beavers’ largest in a Pac-12 match since 2003, and the six goals is their most in a Pac-12 match since 2002. - Mueller’s hat-trick was the first by an OSU freshman since Alan Gordon scored three against Washington in 2002 Can’t Stop Khiry: Senior forward Khiry Shelton is on a record-setting pace for the Beavers this season. The Leander, Texas, native leads the nation with 10 assists, and is just three assists away from tying the Oregon State single-season record. His 24 points are third in the country and first in the conference. Shelton is currently tied for eighth on the OSU single-season points list, and sits 11 points behind the school record. Shelton’s 46 career points place him 10th in Oregon State history. Big Time Timmy: After his hat-trick on Sunday, freshman Timmy Mueller now has nine goals this season, placing him fifth in the nation and first in the conference. The OSU . freshman record for goals in a season is 10, held by Joe Zaher (2002) and Robbie Findley (2003). OSU also sits atop the NCAA list with 36 assists and 92 points. Oregon State’s win-loss-tie percentage of .727 is 19th in the nation, despite the Beavers’ challenging schedule which has featured matches against teams currently ranked No. 8, No. 15, and No. 22 (Marquette, Stanford and California). Into the Rankings: The Beavers returned to the national rankings this week, coming in at No. 23 in the NSCAA National Poll, and No. 18 in the Top Drawer Soccer Poll. Oregon State also comes in fifth in the NSCAA Far West rankings. Let’s Talk D: Sunday’s 6-2 win over California marked the first time this season the Beavers have allowed more than one goal in a contest. As a team, Oregon State has allowed just eight scores in its first 11 matches, in a stretch that includes four shutouts. The Beavers’ +20 goal differential leads the Pac-12. Mr. Jones: Freshman Jordan Jones has scored four goals this season, the third-highest total on the team. Jones has made eight starts this season, and will look to continue to bolster Oregon State’s high-powered attack going forward. Fortress Paul Lorenz: The Beavers have shown some strong home form this season, going 7-1-0 in matches played at Paul Lorenz Field. With a perfect 6-0 mark at home to start the season, the Beavers have now won 16 consecutive nonconference matches in Corvallis, in a streak that dates back to Sept. 25, 2011. Bersano Saves The Day: Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Matt Bersano is continuing to work his way up the OSU record books this season, after an impressive 2013 campaign. The Tempe, Ariz., native set the Oregon State record with 101 saves last season. Bersano allowed just 1.14 goals per game in his sophomore year, and posted five shutouts on his way to Second Team All-Pac-12 honors. He is currently fourth in Oregon State history with 202 career saves.
