Last Time Out: The Beavers posted a very strong performance last Sunday, beating No.
match, on its way to an early 2-0 advantage. The Golden Bears proceeded to tie the score
at two early in the second half, but the Beavers responded by scoring the game’s final four
goals to take the victory. Khiry Shelton and Timmy Mueller both posted hat-trick’s in the
match. Here is a list of Oregon State’s team and individual accomplishments in the game:
- The win was Oregon State’s first over a ranked opponent since OSU beat No. 22 Washington 2-1 on Sept. 30, 2011
- No. 13 Cal is the highest-ranked team the Beavers have defeated since they beat No. 12
UCLA 1-0 on Oct. 9, 2005
- The game marked the first time in Oregon State history that two Beavers have had a hattrick in the same game
- Prior to the match, the last Oregon State hat-trick came from Emery Welshman vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sept. 21, 2012. The last OSU hat-trick in a Pac-12 match was scored
by Robbie Findley on Nov. 14, 2004
- The four-goal margin of victory was the Beavers’ largest in a Pac-12 match since 2003,
and the six goals is their most in a Pac-12 match since 2002.
- Mueller’s hat-trick was the first by an OSU freshman since Alan Gordon scored three
against Washington in 2002
Can’t Stop Khiry: Senior forward Khiry Shelton is on a record-setting pace for the Beavers
this season. The Leander, Texas, native leads the nation with 10 assists, and is just three
assists away from tying the Oregon State single-season record. His 24 points are third
in the country and first in the conference. Shelton is currently tied for eighth on the OSU
single-season points list, and sits 11 points behind the school record. Shelton’s 46 career
points place him 10th in Oregon State history.
Big Time Timmy: After his hat-trick on Sunday, freshman Timmy Mueller now has nine
goals this season, placing him fifth in the nation and first in the conference. The OSU
.
freshman record for goals in a season is 10, held by Joe Zaher (2002) and Robbie Findley
(2003). Mueller also sits seventh in the NCAA and third in the conference with 20 points,
bringing him within five of Joe Zaher’s Oregon State freshman record.

Team in the Nation: Oregon State has been an offensive powerhouse this season, as the
Beavers currently lead the nation in goals with 28. OSU also sits atop the NCAA list with 36
assists and 92 points. Oregon State’s win-loss-tie percentage of .727 is 19th in the nation,
despite the Beavers’ challenging schedule which has featured matches against teams currently ranked No. 8, No. 15, and No. 22 (Marquette, Stanford and California).
Into the Rankings: The Beavers returned to the national rankings this week, coming in at
No. 23 in the NSCAA National Poll, and No. 18 in the Top Drawer Soccer Poll. Oregon State
also comes in fifth in the NSCAA Far West rankings.
Let’s Talk D: Sunday’s 6-2 win over California marked the first time this season the Beavers
have allowed more than one goal in a contest. As a team, Oregon State has allowed just eight
scores in its first 11 matches, in a stretch that includes four shutouts. The Beavers’ +20 goal
differential leads the Pac-12.
Mr. Jones: Freshman Jordan Jones has scored four goals this season, the third-highest total on the team. Jones has made eight starts this season, and will look to continue to bolster
Oregon State’s high-powered attack going forward.
Fortress Paul Lorenz: The Beavers have shown some strong home form this season, going
7-1-0 in matches played at Paul Lorenz Field. With a perfect 6-0 mark at home to start the
season, the Beavers have now won 16 consecutive nonconference matches in Corvallis, in a
streak that dates back to Sept. 25, 2011.
Bersano Saves The Day: Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Matt Bersano is continuing to work his
way up the OSU record books this season, after an impressive 2013 campaign. The Tempe,
Ariz., native set the Oregon State record with 101 saves last season. Bersano allowed just 1.14
goals per game in his sophomore year, and posted five shutouts on his way to Second Team
All-Pac-12 honors. He is currently fourth in Oregon State history with 202 career saves.
Record Setting Game: The Beavers rewrote the Oregon State record book when they defeated Northwest Christian 11-1 at Paul Lorenz Field on Sept. 22. Below is a list of Oregon
State’s team and individual accomplishments in the match:
- Oregon State’s 11 goals is a new OSU single-game record
- The Beavers seven second-half goals are the most in a single half in school history
- Khiry Shelton, Rolando Velazquez and David Boldt all tied the school record with three assists
- Shelton’s seven points was the most by an Oregon State player since Emery Welshman
also had seven, against UW-Green Bay in 2012
- Oregon State’s 35 shots was the second-highest single-game total in school history (39
vs. San Diego State on Sept. 23, 2001)
- The Beavers’ 34 points (11 goals, 12 assist) sets a new school record
- Oregon State’s 12 assists is a new Oregon State single-game record
- The 10-goal win ties the largest margin of victory in Oregon State history (10-0 over Humboldt State on Nov. 5, 2004)

Tournament Champions: Oregon State won a pair of tournament’s early in the season, finishing first in both the Portland Nike Invitational and the Hensor/Zaher Nike Classic. The
Beavers won the Portland Invite to open the season, defeating Evansville and UCF to finish
atop the event standings. Oregon State then went on to win the Hensor/Zaher Classic, after
defeating Siena and Duquesne at Paul Lorenz Field.
Get the Pac-12 Net: Eight of Oregon State’s final nine games will be televised on Pac-12
Networks, beginning with this Sunday’s game against California. After this week, the Beavers will be on the screen against Washington on Oct. 12, before ending the year with sixstraight TV games.
Spreading it Out: This year’s Oregon State team features players from three foreign countries, and eight different states. Phillip van Berkom has made the longest journey, traveling
5,116 miles from Zetten, the Netherlands to Corvallis. He is followed closely by Will Seymore,
who has made the 4,957 mile trek from Soham, England. Freshmen Nolan Wirth and Eli Roubos both hail from Canada. Eight Beavers come from the state of Oregon, to go along with
three apiece from Colorado and Washington. A pair of Beavers come from California (CJ Brill
and Jordan Jones) and Texas (Khiry Shelton and Devonte Small). They are joined by one
player each from Arizona (Matt Bersano), Idaho (Timmy Mueller) and Alaska (Rian Phillips).
