We could learn a lot from crayons: Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull,
some have weird names, and all are different colors …
but they all exist very nicely together in the same box.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of the commandments, you gave the Israelites laws so that they might live in
harmony with one another. Show us how to live in peace, so that all may know of your
love. We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
CHOIR ANTHEM
“They Shall Soar Like Eagles” by Manzo
RESPONSIVE PSALM
Psalm 81:1-10
God is praised for what he has done for his people.
1
Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob.
2
Raise a song, sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp.
3
Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our festal day.
4
For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5
He made it a decree in Joseph, when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a voice I had
not known:
6
‘I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.
7
In distress you called, and I rescued you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I
tested you at the waters of Meribah.
8
Hear, O my people, while I admonish you; O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9
There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
10
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your
mouth wide and I will fill it.
OLD TESTAMENT READING
Exodus 19:3-7, 20:1-17
God brings Israel as on eagle’s wings; Decalogue.
2
3
Then Moses went up to God; the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, ‘Thus you
shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the Israelites: 4You have seen what I did to the
Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5Now therefore, if
you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the
peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, 6but you shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a
holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites.’ 7 So Moses came,
summoned the elders of the people, and set before them all these words that the LORD had
commanded him. 20:1 Then God spoke all these words:
2
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of
slavery; 3you shall have no other gods before me.
4
You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven
above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5You shall not
bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing
children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject
me, 6but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and
keep my commandments.
7
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not
acquit anyone who misuses his name.
8
Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy. 9For six days you shall labor and do all your
work. 10But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; you shall not do any
work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the
alien resident in your towns. 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and
all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day
and consecrated it.
12
Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that
the LORD your God is giving you.
13
You shall not murder.
14
You shall not commit adultery.
15
You shall not steal.
16
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or
male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
NEW TESTAMENT READING
Romans 13:8-10
The obligation of Christians is to love one another and so fulfill the heart and goal of the law.
Clothes make the person as we “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” and live today in light of the
future God has in store for us.
8
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled
the law. 9The commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall
not steal; You shall not covet’; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word,
3
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
GOSPEL READING
ELW p. 142
Matthew 5:1-15
P: The Holy Gospel according to Mathew the 5th chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
1
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples
came to him. 2Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
3
‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5
‘Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6
‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7
‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
8
‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10
‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
11
‘Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against
you falsely on my account.
12
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted
the prophets who were before you.
13
‘You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is
no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
14
‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.15No one after lighting a
lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

OFFERTORY
“Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful”
ELW # 184
Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing.
Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life.
Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer.
Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their
needs.
Brief Silence
Heavenly God, you have named and claimed each of us as your people in the waters of baptism.
As we live in this relationship, help us to be faithful to being the people you have called us to be
and doing the things you have called us to do. Lord, in your mercy...
Hear our prayer.
Gracious God, you have been more generous with us than we could ever deserve. If we would
just try to name the gifts you have given to us, they would be more numerous than we could
ever imagine. Help us to follow your example and to be willing to share of our abundance with
the Church and with all those in need. Lord, in your mercy...
Hear our prayer.
Healing and comforting God, you promise to hear all of our prayers and to answer each of
them. There are many in this family of faith and connected to this family who are in need of
your care this day and always. We ask you to be with each of them and help them to know your
presence and your peace. Lord, in your mercy...
Hear our prayer.
Gathering God, you call each of us to be members of the one Church, which is the body of
Christ. As members of this body, we are called to support one another, encourage one another
and pray for one another. This week, we pray for St. Peter Lutheran Church in Leonard and
Pastor John Flaa. We ask you to be with this congregation as it seeks to do your work in its
community and in the world. Lord, in your mercy...
Hear our prayer.
Ever-present God, your Son Jesus promised that where ever two or three are gathered in His
name, He is right there among them. This morning, we thank you for Christ’s presence with
Peace Lutheran Church and all of the wonderful things this congregation has done and will
continue to do. We also ask you to be with us and to help us discern the work that we should be
doing as we live into the future you have in store for us. Lord, in your mercy...
Hear our prayer.
Into your hands, we commend all for whom we pray trusting in your mercy through your Son,
Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Distribution: All who believe in Christ’s presence in the bread and wine are welcome to the
Lord’s table. Please indicate if you prefer a gluten-free alternative instead of the wafer or grape
