Fall 2014
International Credit Union Day:
OCTOBER 16, 2014
International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been
celebrated on the third Thursday of October since
1948. The day is recognized to reflect upon the
credit union movement’s history and to promote
its achievements. It is a day to honor those who
have dedicated their lives to the movement,
recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.
This year’s ICU Day will take place on Oct. 16, 2014. Its theme, “Local Service. Global Good.,” emphasizes
credit unions’ positive impact in their communities and around the world.
In support of this year’s theme, we encourage you to “give service” by participating in a local service project—
donate time to a local school, church or charity during the month of October. As a way of “giving service” our
employees will volunteer at Stewart Academy for Girls (TPS) and assist with Finances 101 at Bowling Green
State University. If you are interested in a volunteer opportunity, contact the United Way of Greater Toledo,
Metroparks, Humane Society, Red Cross or a similar organization.

$30,000 or more; ask for the details. Minimum term = 24 months. Minimum loan amount = $2,000. A .25% rate discount will be given to

Your Money
Holiday Gift Giving
Avoid the Inactivity Fee
Save yourself time and unnecessary stress this
holiday season. Give the perfect gift—a VISA gift
card! Stop by an Educational Community Alliance CU
branch and choose from a variety of card themes. Put
$10 to $1,000 on the card for spending. Why stop with
just one card? Buy several cards for gift exchanges
at work or in your social club, or give them as gifts to
your hair dresser, manicurist, or barber. For a small
fee of $2.50 per card, you’re well on your way to
finishing your holiday shopping. Cards can be used
almost anywhere Visa is accepted.
When accounts lie dormant without being “touched”
the entire year, an inactivity fee of $5 is assessed.
Members who have not completed at least one
transaction on their account during 2014 will see
a $5 fee charged to their account on December
31. If the current account balance is less than $5
(which means we are unable to assess the entire
inactivity fee), the account will be “zeroed out” and
closed. To avoid the inactivity fee or account closure,
make a deposit or conduct some transaction on the
account(s), prior to December 31, 2014.

Thanks for your Donations: Back-to-School Supply Drive

Educational Community Accepts the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Being TPS Proud...
Do you recognize this familiar “Cat in the Hat?”
Our Credit Union leaders accepted the ALS (ice
bucket) challenge issued by Glass City Federal
Credit Union. CEO, Beth Carpenter, and staff
took the plunge and our Board of Directors was
all too happy to do the honors of pouring the ice
cold water. After completing the challenge, we
challenged members to make a donation to the
cause. Thank you for your generosity. On behalf
of the Board, Staff and our awesome members,
we are making a donation to the ALS foundation.

Big Winners in the Credit Union Switch and Save Sweepstakes
In partnership with several other local credit unions,
Educational Community Alliance CU ran the Switch
and Save Sweepstakes from Oct. 2013 through June
2014. The goal of the sweepstakes was to educate the
community about the benefits of banking with a credit
union and ultimately get them to switch from their current
banking institution (big bank) to a credit union. TV spots
ran on channel 13 abc and community members could visit
the 13 abc website to actually enter for a chance to win
cold hard cash! A monthly winner was selected to win $100
from October 2013 through June 2014 (for a total of $900).
Three grand prize winners were selected from a random
drawing held in June. The winners were awarded a total of
$3,000 and were as follows: 1st place ($1,500)- Barbara
B., 2nd place ($1,000)- Kim W., and 3rd place ($500),
Michelle S. Congratulations again!
Happy Holidays from your Friends at the Credit Union
