Year 7 Subject choices 2015
At Cairns School of Distance Education, students in Years 7, 8, and 9 are given the opportunity to
participate in subjects from all Key Learning Areas (KLAs).
English, Maths, Science, History (Semester 1) and Geography (Semester 2) are compulsory core subjects for
all students in Years 7, 8 & 9.
Study of a Language is also compulsory until the end of Year 8.
Year 7 & 8 students will also study one introductory elective subject each semester. These include
Introduction to Art, Music, Performing Arts and Media, Health & Physical Education, Home Economics and
Information & Communication Technologies (ICT).

you read these outlines prior to making your subject choices.

- Students must study one subject from each line, each semester.
- Once students have completed a semester of an introductory elective subject in Year 7 or 8, they will not be

able to choose that subject again until Year 9.
Students wishing to study a Language in Years 11 & 12 must study that Language up to the end of Year 10.
In Year 9 students will select one Year 9 subject that they will study for the whole year. It is essential that
students have completed the introductory prerequisite subject in Year 7 or 8. This means that students
need to think about which subjects they might like to do in Year 9 before choosing subjects on Line 6.
