6 The Caritas Well Copenhagen’s oldest fountain was built in 1608 by Christian IV. Each year on the Queen’s birthday, golden apples jump in the fountain. 10 Rosenborg Castle The summer hermitage was built by Christian IV in the 17th century and became his favoured residence. Here you can experience 300 years of the history of the Danish kings, and see the pomp and circumstance they surrounded themselves with in the form of valuable furniture and art treasures. In the Great Hall the thrones are guarded by three silver lions, and the tapestries on the walls represent scenes from battles between Denmark and Sweden. The heavily guarded crown jewels and royal crowns sparkle in the treasury beneath the castle. 7 The Church of Our Lady The Neoclassical church is Copenhagen’s Cathedral, where Crown Prince Frederik was married to the Australian Mary Donaldson in 2004.
