N O T E S
FROM THE PASTOR
In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear a continuation of Christ’s emphasis in
the readings of the past few weeks on seeing the world as God sees it. Over the
last two weeks, our life was compared to working in a carefully cultivated
vineyard, to serve and share its fruitfulness. This week the meaning of our life is
described in terms of our acceptance or refusal of repeated invitations to
participate in a great “wedding feast” of the King for His Son.
At every celebration of the Eucharist before the reception of Holy
Communion, the Priest speaks words echoing those of St. John the Baptist:
“Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” This “Lamb’s Supper”
celebrating the union of Christ and His Bride, the Church, is exactly the great
wedding banquet described in the closing chapters of the Book of Revelation, the
very same feast the Lord Jesus is referring to in His parable.
Sharing in the life of the Church involves emerging from our private
concerns so that we can find the Lord at the heart of our caring for one another.
This weekend’s Annual Bishop’s Appeal is one way of supporting the work of
Christ throughout our Diocese. In addition to all of the good initiatives that
Bishop Rhoades highlights in the video, I must also mention the support you
provide through the Appeal (and the Pentecost Collection in June) for the
education of our seminarians for the Priesthood. Fr. Andrew and I are particularly
grateful that your support in previous years made possible our seminary studies
to serve you.
Any and all of the overage for this year’s Appeal at St. Vincent’s will go
toward funding increased handicapped accessibility on our parish grounds, a goal
identified in our five-year Pentecost Plan. The first priority would be a ramp for
the main entrance of our School, followed by the possibility of extending a
covered walkway toward the parking lot on the south side of church. Thank you
in advance for your generosity!
Finally, in this month of October dedicated to increased respect for all
human life, I share with you a photo of an event I described in last week’s homily.
On Christmas Day 2012 I had the joy of meeting the doctor who delivered me as
a baby. Dr. “Andy” Gonzales holds a crucifix that I gave him after I administered
to him the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. It was an extraordinary
privilege to see the eyes
which first saw me and to
anointing the hands which
first held me. Dr. Gonzales
went to meet the Lord in
March of this year.
Through your prayers and
mine, may he receive his
seat at the eternal Wedding
Feast of the Lamb!
In St. Vincent’s love of
Christ,
Fr. Daniel Scheidt

with the feelings of rejection, betrayal, isolation, and
depression.

required before your child is baptized — Session I and
Session II. You may attend Session II before Session I, if
necessary. Each session will begin at 7:00 pm. It is
recommended that both parents attend before the birth
of your child so that there will be no delay in setting a
date for the baptism once the baby is born. Godparents,
too, are welcome. At least one parent and one
godparent must be practicing Catholics. Also, parents
must be registered in the Parish. Please call the church
office to sign up for your sessions.

[email protected]. Free will donations will
be accepted.
RCIA NEWS
We are coming near the celebration of the Rite of
Acceptance and Welcoming on Sunday, October 26. This
celebration is where our RCIA Inquirers will assemble
publicly for the first time in the Church declaring their
intention to the Church and the Church in turn, carrying
out its apostolic mission, accepts them as persons who
intend to become its members. Please continue to pray
that God showers His grace on them, since the celebration manifests their desire publicly and marks their
reception and first consecration by the Church.

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP
In a time of loss, it is important to know that there is a place where you can be with others who understand your
pain. This is a time when being with others who have walked their own path of grief may be of comfort and offer
solace in a way that your family and friends cannot give. St. Vincent’s Bereavement Ministry is holding support group
sessions which will meet for seven weeks. The dates run from Wednesday, November 5 to December 17, with one
meeting on Tuesday, November 25. All meetings will be held 6:30pm-8:30pm in the East Room at
St. Vincent de Paul Church. It is our hope to provide a comforting atmosphere in which to share the grief and
bereavement process and to offer emotional support. Your loss need not be recent for the sessions to be
helpful. If this is something you are looking for, call Carrie Boedeker at 260-489-8588 or cell phone 260-418-8054

PRAY A ROSARY FOR PEACE
First grade teacher, Mr. Tony Turner is one of the 300 serving in Operation Enduring
Freedom. Maybe you have a close loved one or friend who is also being deployed. We
ask you to join us as a community in praying the Rosary for peace and the safe return of
all our troops. Any time you say a Rosary with your family, a friend or just by yourself, you
can pick up a card in the office to be placed on the wall in the school. From now until
Veterans Day on November 11, we want to line the walls with red, white and blue and
send prayers to Our Lady to intercede for us with her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

would just talk to you? Guess what? He
does! Scripture is not dead, but alive in
our lives. You just have to know how to
read it. Come find out how to hear God
speaking to you. BRING YOUR
BIBLES! See you there! 7-8:45 pm in the
Life Center.
Have you felt God calling you to serve Him, but aren’t sure how? Maybe He is
calling you to serve His teens. This is an amazing ministry and I encourage you to
pray about joining the Core team. If you are interested, or if you have someone else
to suggest, please talk to Sarah or any of the Core for more information.

SACRISTANS AND HOSPITALITY MINISTERS: TWO IMPORTANT EVENTS ON OCTOBER 14!
Do you want to get a jump start on attending your 2015 reflection this year? Did you miss the reflections held this past
spring? Are you “snowbirding” and would like to get your reflection in before you head south? October 14, will be the first
date for our 2015 reflections. If you are able, please join our seminarian, David Huneck, as he reflects on the role of the Holy
Spirit in our lives. The reflection will be held in the Spiritual Center Chapel beginning at 7 pm. If you are unable to attend
this reflection, please know that we will be advertising other future dates this coming winter/spring for the 2015 reflections.
Also, If you were unable to attend one of the recent practical sessions, please know that on this same evening, October 14,
at 6:15 in the Church there will be a session to sign up for the online scheduling system and briefly go over the changes that
will be taking place in your ministry prior to the reflection.
