OCTOBER 12, 2014
In the first reading today, we hear Isaiah say,
“…the Lord of hosts will provide for all peoples
a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich
food and pure, choice wines.” Then, in the
second reading, we hear St. Paul say to the
Philippians, “My God will fully supply whatever
you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ
Jesus.” Next weekend, we will have the opportunity to
provide food for our needy brothers and sisters by
participating in a REVERSE collection. We will pass
baskets at the Offertory time, filled with slips of
paper. Please take one OUT of the basket. Each slip of
paper has a food item written on it. Next week when you
come to Mass, bring the item with you to the gathering
space. The food will be given to our local Catholic Charities
office.
If you would prefer to make a
monetary donation, please make your check
payable to Catholic Charities of the Pee Dee
Deanery, or simply put cash in the basket.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

The miracle of the loaves and fishes didn't just
happen. Someone had to gather the basket of
fish and bread to get it started.
Volunteers are needed to feed our youth. We have two
groups:
Coastal Carolina Catholic Students - Sunday night food
and fellowship starts at 6:30PM after the 5:30PM Mass at
Lackey Chapel. Anything home-cooked is appreciated; they
love comfort foods. We provide a main entreé such as
baked ziti, meat loaf, chicken, or any homemade specialty, a
salad, bread, drinks, and dessert. Plan to feed 30.
St. James Teens - The youth group meeting is held
Saturday nights at 7:00PM after the 6:00PM Life Teen Mass
at St. James. Quick food ideas include pizza, pasta, mac’ n’
cheese, sloppy joes, fruit, chips, drinks, and dessert. Plan to
feed 30 in the parish hall.
Any questions call or text Marianne at 843-957-1693 or
email [email protected]
HOOKS AND NEEDLES GROUP: The next meeting of the
Hooks and Needles Ministry will be on November 15 at
6:30PM in the Founders Center. A demonstration on how to
make colorful pillowcases will be given using 3/4 yard of a
focus fabric, 1/4 to 1/3 yard for the cuff, and a 2 inch strip
(width of fabric) for an accent band.
Any interested
individuals are encouraged to join us! For more information,
please contact Karen Morey, 843-234-1988, or email

will be held on the field behind the church today,

PRAYING THE ROSARY: The Rosary will be prayed at
4:00PM before the 4:30PM Mass. If you would like to
volunteer to be in the rotation of people to lead it from the
ambo, please sign up on the sheet located in the gathering

TRAVELING CHALICE--Sign-ups for the
4:30PM Mass for the month of October. The
Traveling Chalice is received by our
parishioners each week. Married couples,
families and singles take it into their homes and
keep it in a place of honor to help them pray for
religious vocations. Having the chalice come home with you is
very special. If you attend the 4:30PM Mass on a regular
basis, a sign-up sheet is in the gathering space to receive the
chalice in your home for a week during the month of October.
Catholic Vocabulary
Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are received at
Baptism. They include wisdom, understanding, counsel
[right judgment], fortitude [courage], knowledge, piety
[reverence], and fear of the Lord [awe and wonder].
“These gifts are strengthened in Confirmation. They help
you keep your friendship with God strong and guide you in
critical situations when you find it hard to cope with
problems, difficult situations in life, or making
decisions. They help you respond to God fully and
lovingly.” (Confirmed in the Spirit, p. 53, Loyola Press)
ONLINE GIVING NOW AVAILABLE
St. James is pleased to announce the introduction of an
electronic option for making regular offerings. Contributions
can now be debited automatically from your checking or
savings account or processed using your credit or debit
card. Our new electronic giving program offers convenience
for you and much-needed donation consistency for our
congregation.
If you are currently giving on a weekly basis, you will no
longer need to write out 52 checks a year or prepare 52
envelopes. And, when travel, illness or other circumstances
prevent you from attending services, this program will allow
your weekly offerings to continue on an uninterrupted
basis. You will have an option to give as a one-time gift,
weekly, semimonthly, or monthly. You can give to our
regular offertory, capital improvement and maintenance, and
any second collections we take up.
Manage your giving online
You can now manage your giving online! Giving online is
easy and allows you to set up automatic recurring
contributions and view your complete online giving history
