FOR EVERYTHING A PLACE: PHOTOGRAPHY BY CRAIG MAINS
Curated by Preston Buchtel - The power of noticing is central to this exhibition of photography by the Ithaca, New York based
photographer and printmaker, Craig Mains. In the common places and daily life situations familiar to us all, Mains finds associations and
messages – intended, unintended, and misread - that typically go unnoticed. He captures these observations, revealing moments
of meaning, humor, and beauty. www.craigmains.com www.prestonbuchtel.com

Martin O’Connor: New Work
O’Connor paintings are notable for their consummate
finish and tactile nature. This is of great importance and
bears witness to great craftsmanship. By focusing on techniques
and materials, he considers making art a craft which is executed using clear formal rules and which
should always refer to social reality. Through a radically singular approach that is nevertheless inscribed in the contemporary debate, O’Connor uses references and ideas that are so integrated into
the process of the composition of the work that they may escape those who do not take the time to explore how and why
these images haunt you, like a good film, long after you’ve seen them. IMAGE “Solace” by Martin O’Connor

Old Friends: 20 Illustrators Pay Tribute to
Beloved Children’s Books Curated by Erin Schechtman
As children, our first exposure to art comes to us in the picture books read to us by our
parents. Immersed in the lush worlds and characters created by the artists and authors, we
come back to revisit these dog-eared pages again and again. These books are always cherished, but for some, they are just the beginning of a lifelong obsession. In this group exhibit,
20 working illustrators pay homage to the artists and books that inspired them to embark
on their unique career paths. Join us to spend time celebrating a few old friends. ARTISTS:
Jim Giar, Ben Hale, Erin Schechtman, Tim Switalski, Robin Krantz, Dee Piotrowski, Craig
Worrell, Randy Crider, Rebecca Zomchek, Angela Oster, Clare Kolat, Steve Ellis, Gary Dumm, Laura Dumm, Steve Defino, Rachelle

A Strange Holiday:
An Aesthetic Examination of the Sam Sheppard Case
Curated by Ross Lesko of Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery. In the early morning hours of July 4, 1954, Marilyn
Sheppard was brutally murdered in her Bay Village home. Twenty-six days later, her husband, Dr. Sam Sheppard was arrested on the porch of his parents’ house and charged with her murder. The house where Sam
Sheppard was arrested is now part of the BAYarts campus, known as the Fuller House. It is also home
to the Sullivan Gallery, which will host this exhibition. Sam Sheppard denied any involvement in his wife’s
murder, describing his own struggle with a bushy-haired assailant. The sensationalized trial became
international news, with ramifications that still reverberate in the media, pop culture, and the U.S. Supreme court. IMAGE “The Doctors” by Troy Gua

Injecting Mood & Atmosphere in
Landscapes & Cityscapes
Intermediate to Advanced - In this workshop, students will
learn how to inject mood and atmosphere in landscape, waterscape & cityscape paintings, by reducing the subject matter into a
simple pattern of shapes and tonal values, and expressing it with
one’s personal visual language without being bogged down with
unnecessary details. Strong emphasis will be placed on how to
create the sense of depth in the painting by relying on the tonal
value sketch and by using various perspective tools such as edge
quality, directional lines and a role of foreground. This workshop
is designed to help students understand and gain necessary skills
to turn an ordinary scene into a memorable watercolor painting

Portraits: Paint a Celebrity
“The Reliquarian” Judy Takács
Artist with Judy Takács
Intermediate to Advanced
Judy Takács, award-winning painter
will demonstrate ways in which she
achieves the painterly realism of her
portraits. Over the course of this
four-week class, students will complete paintings of two Ohio celebrity
artists that Judy has invited to pose
for the students. Each of these artists
will not only model for the class, but
they will bring a few pieces of their
art to share with you. This is a great
opportunity to meet new artists, see
their work and, in turn, see how this
information inspires your paintings.
This is a great course for both emerging and established artists. www.
