Oct 2014 member/owner newsletter for Copper Valley Telephone Cooperative Copper Wire the The People You Know! Chris Mishmash Purchasing & Facilities Manager Valdez Copper Valley Expands Lifeline ($1/month phone service ) Eligibility Telephone and wireless service for as little as $1 per month is now available to a broader range of households thanks to recent modifications of CVT’s Lifeline eligibility requirements. Lifeline is a federal program that provides discounts for customers who meet certain qualifications. Most customers qualify by showing that they already subscribe to another federal or state needsbased program such as Medicaid or Federal Public Housing Assistance. In August, Copper Valley’s list of approved programs grew to include the following programs (see below). This means that if you or someone you know subscribes to one of these programs and your household is not receiving another Lifeline discount, you may qualify for greatly reduced telephone rates. Call our offices today to determine if you qualify! As stated on ROAR’s Facebook site, “The purpose of ROAR is to develop public awareness of the benefits of waste reduction, re-use, and recycling through education and citizen participations, and to encourage and facilitate solid waste reduction, resource re-use, and recycling in the Copper River Basin.” ROAR statistics speak volumes; since 1992 this facility has recycled approximately 98 tons of paper goods (one ton saves more than 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space) and has also recycled 34 tons of aluminum cans (equates to about 1.9 million cans). ROAR currently accepts: Aluminum Cans Shredded Office Paper Mixed Paper Office Paper Newspaper (for more detailed information, please visit the ROAR Facebook page) Each August, CVT employees work the site by processing the recyclables as part of our annual sponsorship agreement. I am always so impressed by this facility, and the organization as a whole, that I felt the need to spread the word on this impressive grassroots organization! Next time you pass through Glennallen, check out this ROAR recycling center in the Copper Valley at Mile 188.6 Glenn Hwy or better yet, check it out AND drop off your recyclables.
