Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Friday we welcomed our new
student leaders for this term: Isabella,
Florence, Jaxon, Devin, Jarred,
Stephanie and Claudia who are looking
forward to their roles this term.
This Friday night, our students will enjoy the
DISCO in Owen Hall! Many thanks to the parents
volunteering their time to assist with the sausage
sizzle from 5:30pm and the disco from 6-8pm – we
hope to see you there. The disco is for current SPX
students and their younger (pre-school and toddler)
siblings. Footsteps Dance Company will be our DJ
hosts for the evening.
The second working bee for this year is on
Saturday 18th October from 8:00am. To
date, we only have two replies – and we
need about 10 parents to complete the jobs within
2 hours. The main jobs are:
 spreading sand in the sandpit
 spreading softfall in the junior and senior

LET US PRAY
Synod on the Family
Until October 19, Church leaders have gathered in
Rome for the Extraordinary Synod of the Family.
WORLD MISSION DAY
The name is important for a synod of Bishops is only
called extraordinary when it is convened to deal with
issues that require a “speedy solution” and which
demand urgent attention for the good of the entire
Church. There are many difficulties and pressures
that families face, and bishops who gather for this
Synod will be seeking ways to assist families and to
promote the great good that is family life.
World Mission Day is celebrated every year in every
country wherever there are Catholics committed to
building a better world for all of God's people, a world
where everyone has all they need to live a dignified
and fulfilling life.
This Sunday, 19 October
is World Mission Day.
This year, parishioners and school children across
Australia are invited to reach out to support the
crucial work of the Jamaican Catholic Church in
helping people turn away from violence and crime.
Sadly Jamaica is a nation deeply troubled with the
second-highest rate of gun-killings anywhere in the
world. Communities across Jamaica live in constant

fear. To just be alive might seem like a simple dream
to us, but for many of the Jamaican youth born into
the ghettos, they know chances are high that they will
never achieve their dreams or that their life will be
cut short as a result of the violence.
