This works because the house is a hard asset with a reasonably ascertainable value which can be financed through the mortgage market. The sale of your business is an entirely different matter because its principal value resides in its client relationships. The buyer is buying future sales which neither seller nor buyer can guarantee will occur. If the seller wishes “cash on close” they are transferring this enormous risk to the buyer which will result in a sharp drop in the price that a buyer could reasonably pay. If one assumes that the seller wants to realize as much as possible from the sale, the deal has to be structured so that a substantial portion is a percentage of retained sales (sales to an agreed list of clients). Because of the assumption of risk on the part of the seller, the door is opened for a higher price. Naturally, the seller will need to be comfortable with the ability of the buyer to retain and even grow the business which will tend to make the ideal buyer a firm already in the seller’s market. The seller needs to know that the buyer will not take actions like imposing a new pricing structure or sales compensation plan which will drive away either clients or sales reps. The seller should be comfortable working with the buyer to retain the client relationships that are the core of the story. Most employers in our industry have provided health and other benefits to their employees with varying amounts of employer contribution as they have seen it as a necessary part of attracting and keeping the people that they need—ACA does not change that. We've Never There are employers who have not Offered Health provided health coverage in the past. If they have less than 50 employees Coverage they may continue that practice in the future. If they have more than 50 employees, they will have an obligation to offer “compliant coverage” to their employees. “Compliant coverage” means a plan which pays for 60% of “minimum essential benefits” (a “bronze” plan) and for which employees do not have to pay more than 9.5% of W-2 wages for their own coverage but have to pay for 100% of dependent coverage. In most situations, employees will reject the offer which requires them to pay 9.5% of W-2 wages and the employer will pay nothing. On the other hand, if the offer is not made, the employer will be subject to a $2,000 annual nondeductible penalty for each employee (equal to about $3,300 pre-tax earnings). WEEKLY UPDATE October 13, 2014 UCLA has published an interesting study Unions And on unionization in California. The results California are striking, but not surprising. Union market penetration by employment in the manufacturing sector (which includes printing) is 5.2% in California (it’s 9.7% nationally). Specifically, in our industry in the Los Angeles metro area, it’s about 1.5%. In the public sector (including education) it’s 42.6% (41.9% nationally). The political power of public sector unions has made wages and benefits leap ahead of the private sector (at the expense of the taxpayers who don’t negotiate contracts, just pay the bill) making public sector unions ever more attractive. When your team or organization needs a Get turnaround, the process can seem endless, Momentum especially in the beginning. Do your best to generate some short-term wins right away. Go after goals that are quickly attainable and have high visibility, even if they seem less impressive at the outset. Celebrate those initial achievements and publicly reward employees who lead those efforts. Your goal is to gain momentum by heightening your team’s sense of urgency and optimism in the future. Early victories will blunt resistors to the change and sway the undecideds. Jim Kyger, Printing Industries of Changed America’s Assistant Vice President, W-4? Human Relations, explains that there is a little-known IRS regulation that requires employers to remind employees to file an amended W-4 if they have had some changes since their last W-4 was filed. The notice must be provided by December 1st each year. How the notice is sent out is not required, but paycheck inserts might be the best vehicle. There are a variety of withholding calculators on the IRS’s website and on various commercial internet sites that can be helpful. Note: employees may want to adjust their state and local tax withholding as well if applicable. To cut down on the number of employee questions, it may be useful to provide a copy of Publication 505, Tax Withholding and Estimated Tax (2014). The IRS has a poster that might be useful as well. A review of withholding should also be done by employees after certain life events, such as the birth of child, a child no longer being a dependent, adoption, marriage, divorce, etc. On lighter stocks when running aqueous coating the sheets in the delivery have Ask Dr. B... a curl. Dr. Mark Bohan from the Center for Technology and Research, 412-2591782, said the curl is most likely due to water absorption from the aqueous coating. On light stocks this may be to some degree unavoidable. Try running less coating or use a high solids coating with less water. Racking or running smaller lifts may help reduce the curl.
