THE ECHO OF INDIA SILIGURI 2 Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa & North-East Yashwant call to follow JP's values RANCHI, OCT 11 /--/ Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today said whenever social upheaval has arisen, great people have emerged to restore peace and prosperity and Jayaprakash Narayan was one such stalwart. "Whenever crisis hits society, a supreme personality emerges to deal with it. And Jayaprakash Narayan was like that supreme personality," the former external affairs minister said here. "But again things become the same after some days after the restoration, because evil dominates human nature. We have to take a pledge that we will tread the path shown by JP, who dedicated his life for values," Singh said. "Jayaprakash Narayan never asked anything for himself. He did not accept any position. How many people are there to follow his footsteps", the senior BJP leader questioned. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of JP's birth anniversary jointly organised by 74 Chetna Manch and JP Vichar Manch, the two organisations formed by Jayaprakash Narayan's followers who went to jail during Emergency. On the occasion, the two organisations among others demanded a strong Lokpal that should also cover the post of chief minister. Former Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Chandreshwar Prasad Singh claimed "power changes hands but the system remains the same." The Ranchi MLA cited examples saying how regimes led by RJD's Lalu Prasad and JDU's Nitish Kumar in Bihar did not change the system. Referring to economic disparity in the society, Singh quoted an example saying, "The poor run miles to eke out a living while the rich run miles to digest the food eaten overnight." He supported the demand for installing JP's statute in Ranchi and exhorted to follow JP's ideals to usher in values in the society. The rape of six women by three accused in Kurmuri village of Bhojpur district two days ago has shocked everybody and exposed holes in the law and order situation of Bihar in which criminal elements appeared to be calling shots, the former deputy chief minister of the state said in a statement. The rape cases against women has increased alar mingly, with 1128 cases being recorded last year, and the figur e stands at 708 till July 2014, he claimed, adding that the numbers will be much more than those made public as many cases are hushed up by local people and in a number of other cases, the police refuse to take complaints from the victims. An utter sense of insecurity dogged women, particu- larly those living in rural areas, as they got no protection from the state government and local administration, he alleged. Launching a attack on former chief minister Nitish Kumar for "deterioration" of law and order situation in Bihar and "rise" in the number of crime against women, the former deputy chief minister recalled that Kumar used to pat himself for women and girls moving around in night too to harp on improved law and order situation in comparison to "lawlessness" that prevailed during the three terms of RJD. "Why law and order situation has suddenly turned so bad in Bihar, particular in the context of spate in crime against women?" Modi said and asked Nitish Kumar to explain it. Similarly, there has been spurt in cases of murder, kidnapping, bank loot and dacoity in running trains, besides rape, Modi alleged and expressed fear that the state was being pushed back to days of "jungle raj", referring to JD-U's bonhomie with RJD. 17th Asian Games -2014 Gold Medalist in the 51 kg women’s category M C Mery Kom and other medal winners at a felicitation function organized by the Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Department in Imphal on Saturday.
