Prabhu also earned his reputation as a skillful operator and reformer as Power Minister in Vajpayee Government but was suddenly pulled out of the Ministry by Shiv Sena. Ever since has has not been seen as an active Sainik. Dattatreya’s inclusion gives representation to the new Telangana State in the Union Ministry while Rudy makes a comeback into the Government. First-time MP Mahesh Sharma seems to be a surprise choice as a Minister of State with Independent Charge given the fact that Naqvi, a former Minister, has been given just a Minister of State berth. All the other Ministers of State are newcomers and firsttime MPs except Yadav, who had been a Member of Parliament either of the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha having come from RJD in Bihar. PTI BJP markets anti-graft stand Contd from page 1 Shyam Jaju claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working to eradicate corruption from the country. However, corruption cases have been growing continuously in Manipur. New Delhi has received reports of many corruption cases from Manipur and thus BJP has been closely examining all these cases and all of them would be taken to their logical end, he stated. BJP State unit president Th Chaoba appealed to all the people to strengthen BJP in Manipur by enrolling themselves in the party either by using printed forms or electronically through mobile phones. The party would work to get 50 per cent voters of each and every polling station enrolled. BJP would take up eradication of corruption as a one-point programme and fight Congress on every turf. Dissidence rocks DAN Government Newmai News Network DIMAPUR, Nov 9: It has been quite sometime now that the Nagaland Government headed by TR Zeliang is facing a revolt. Two senior Ministers, Kaito and Noke are said to be working hard to topple the fivemonth-old TR Zeliang’s Government and occupy the CM's chair. TR Zeliang became Chief Minister of Nagaland succeeding Neiphiu Rio on May 24. Meanwhile, a report in the Guwahati edition of The Telegraph said since the month of May the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) has been facing revolt against the new incumbent. Despite opposition from some members, Zeliang was chosen to be the next leader. Minister for Public Health Engineering Department Noke Wangnao and Minister for Industries and Commerce Kaito Ayeh were the forerunners for the top post. Ayeh’s name is still doing the rounds to replace Zeliang. NPF sources admitted dissidence in the party who want to topple Zeliang but did not cite reasons, the report in The Telegraph stated. Zeliang did not induct some heavyweights in the Ministry, which created a rift in the party. The NPF has 38 members in the House of 60, but it has not been smooth sailing for the party as the Centre has downsized the strength of the Ministry to only 12. There are 23 Parliamentary Secretaries and several advisers. Former Home Minister Imkong L Imchen, former Minister for School Education CM Chang, former Minister for Industries and Commerce S Pangnyu Phom, former Minister for Tourism EE Pangteang and former Minister for Youth Resource and Sports Merentoshi R Jamir were not inducted in the Council of Ministers. According to the newspaper report, the NPF lawmakers had decided to repose confidence in the leadership of Zeliang and that any change of leadership in the future would be through a consensus among the members. A party insider said the NPF leadership has requested the dissidents to give time to Zeliang to run the Government. But some members observed that Zeliang has become remote controlled by some of his Cabinet Ministers and his performance till date has not been satisfactory at all, the report added. Neiphiu Rio also met some members of the NPF in Dimapur recently but the out- Saplings planted at Sadu Chiru By Our Staff Reporter IMPHAL, Nov 9: Online Youth Forum (OYF) in association with Sadu Chiru Village Authority and NSUI Manipur State organised a plantation drive at Sadu Chiru village today. He said that OYF is a network of youth which strive to work on different social issues through communication on internet and social networking sites. Saying that OYF had recently conducted a cleanliness drive at Ema Keithel, Kishan said that the forum would continue such social activities in future as well. No new Union Minister for Shiv Sena; relations with BJP flat-lining NEW DELHI, Nov 9 As an array of politicians took their oaths to join the Prime Minister’s Council of Ministers, a Shiv Sena leader who had landed in Delhi was asked to skip the ceremony and catch a flight back to Mumbai. Anil Desai from the Shiv Sena was reportedly to be sworn in as a Minister of State - not acceptable to his party chief Uddhav Thackeray, who wanted a spot in Cabinet for his party. The BJP chose to give that place to Suresh Prabhu, technically a member of the Sena but seen as closer to the Prime Minister’s party. Mr Thackeray’s reported objections to Mr Prabhu’s promotion were ignored by the BJP, and will serve as a new irritant for the feuding parties. Since the BJP won the most seats in last month’s election in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena has been waiting to join the Government. The BJP does not have a majority; Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will take a trust vote on Wednesday. But the BJP has refused to add the Sena to the State Government before then - one of many points that has greatly rankled Mr Thackeray. Allowing the BJP considerable comfort is Sharad Pawar, who has said his party will abstain in the trust vote, allowing Mr Fadnavis to clear it. Thackeray has reportedly told the BJP today that if it utilises Mr Pawar’s support, any chance of a reunion with the Sena is over. The BJP knows that Mr Pawar has earned his reputation as an undependable ally, so a partnership with the Sena is important strategically. However, it does not want to cede to what it feels are exaggerated claims by Mr Thackeray for posts like Deputy Chief Minister and an important portfolio like Home or Finance for his party. Courtesy- NDTV Parrikar to file nomination today NEW DELHI, Nov 9 Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was today sworn-in as a Union Cabinet Minister, will tomorrow file his nomination paper for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. “I can confirm that I am going Lucknow in the next 15 minutes,” Parrikar told reporters outside the Goa Sadan here in the National capital. Sources said he will file his Rajya Sabha nomination around noon tomorrow. Asked if one can now assume that he is the new Defence Minister, Parrikar said, “Wait for another half a day. I will not speculate anything but I don’t think there will be any change from your thinking. Let it come officially”. Replying to queries on the killing of an Army jawan and a woman at the LoC in Pakistani firing, the newly inducted Cabinet Minister said, “Let me at least get something officially. Let me get a little briefing. Without being briefed myself, I cannot comment”. He stressed that the morning tea with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was just an informal interaction in which portfolio was not discussed. He said the Prime Minister has told them that they should study their new Ministry once they assume charge. Parrikar is likely to be the country’s new Defence Minister. He will take over from Arun Jaitley, who was holding additional charge of Defence. Jaitley will now focus exclusively on the next Budget, a mammoth task for the Government that will put into action the Government’s economic plans. If a new Government has to be formed then several of the Cabinet Ministers would not find a place in the Ministry. Party sources said there was heavy undercurrents and politicking to topple the Government. But a source said Zeliang might even recommend President’s Rule if his Government is toppled, the report added. PTI Patriarchy blamed Contd from page 1 of Langmai Petanga, Panthoibi, Lingthoingambi, the two Nupi Lans etc. However, in spite of shouldering heavy responsibilities on all fronts of the socio-economic and political life, women literally have no place under the deep-rooted patriarchal system of Manipuri society. While Manipuri women have been living at a subordinate plane generation after generation, the infamous Armed Forces Special Powers Act was imposed in the State which only multiplied the plight of women, Prof Aruna said. Lamyanba Irabot was one leader who understood the harsh existential realities encountered by Manipuri women on a daily basis. It was Irabot which advocated education and emancipation of women from the clutch of menfolk, Aruna said. Dr Ch Sheelaramani of DM College of Arts said exploitation of women by women takes place across the world. There is a patriarchy driven politics behind all common notions about women being impure and inferior. Patriarchy is a sort of colonial system and women are never given the social position they deserve under any colonial system, he observed. It is the patriarchal politics which breed the notion that women are polluted/impure, women are a burden/liability etc. These concepts/notions are endorsed by religions, holy books, customs and traditions. Many feminists across the world have started re-writing all these books, Sheelaramani said. A new education system which can promote gender equality and negate all the negative concepts about women is the need of the hour. Ng Liklaileima of The Sangai Express remarked that the partriachal system set up for the convenience of women often victimize men too. Superior position enjoyed by men under the patriarchal system corrupt men, often driving many of them to adopt criminal tendency. Former Director of Art and Culture Aheibam Biren said that women and men are inseparable and there should be mutual respect between them. Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup president Phanjoubam (O) Sakhi observed that the subservient position to which women and Manipur as a State are being subjected to is the root cause of the growing violence against women.
