FORT LAUDERDALE — Florida’s Turnpike announces updated lane closures and work zones due to construction and
maintenance projects in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties, for the week beginning
Sunday, Oct. 12.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
GOLDEN GLADES ALL-ELECTRONIC TOLLING AND ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS

One or two lanes in each direction may be closed on Florida’s Turnpike near the Golden Glades toll gantry between
10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.

One or two lanes in each direction will be closed on Florida’s Turnpike, north and south of Hollywood Boulevard (in
Broward County), between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct.16.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An all-electronic tolling gantry has been constructed to replace the Turnpike’s Golden Glades
toll plaza. No-cash tolls went into effect in January 2014. In addition, a new SunPass-only ramp has been constructed at
the Hollywood/Pines Boulevard interchange, and the connector ramp from the Turnpike’s Homestead Extension to the
northbound Turnpike is being widened. Approximate cost: $19.9 million.
TURNPIKE WIDENING, SOUND WALLS AND EXPRESS LANES – EUREKA DRIVE TO KILLIAN PARKWAY

One Turnpike lane in each direction may be closed from Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street to S.R. 874/Don Shula
Expressway between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.
o At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Southwest 117th Avenue – One lane in each direction may be closed beneath the Turnpike overpass from 9 p.m. to
5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.

Southwest 168th Street – One lane in each direction will be closed intermittently beneath the Turnpike overpass
during daytime off-peak hours, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 17.
o Traffic may be stopped for a few minutes at a time for bridge construction activities.

Northbound Turnpike entrance ramp from Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street – Ramp shoulder may be closed
during daytime hours Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 17, for sound wall construction.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Turnpike will be widened to eight and 12 lanes, and express lanes, similar to those on I-95,
will be added. The Turnpike/S.R. 874 interchange will be realigned. Sound barrier walls will be built along residential areas.
Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, drainage, lighting, landscaping, signage and traffic
signal improvements on local roads. Construction began in March 2014 and is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
Approximate cost: $145.3 million.
TURNPIKE WIDENING, SOUND WALLS AND EXPRESS LANES – SW 216th ST. TO EUREKA DR. (EXITS 11-13)

One or two Turnpike lanes in each direction may be closed from Southwest 216th Street to Eureka Drive/Southwest
184th Street between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.
o At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street – One or two lanes in each direction may be closed at the Turnpike
interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.

Quail Roost Drive/Southwest 186th Street – Around-the-clock lane reductions are in effect in the westbound
direction approaching the Turnpike overpass; one through lane remains open. In addition, one westbound or two
eastbound lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 16.
o At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Concurrent lane closures and lane reductions will not be permitted at Eureka Drive and Quail Roost Drive.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Turnpike will be widened from four lanes to six, eight and 10 lanes. Express lanes, similar
to those on I-95, will be constructed. Sound barrier walls will be built along residential areas on the east side of the
Turnpike. Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, drainage, lighting, signage and traffic signal
improvements on local roads. Construction began in Aug. 2013 and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2016.
Approximate cost: $40.9 million.
SOUTHBOUND TURNPIKE SOIL SAMPLES – MILEPOSTS 24-23

One southbound Turnpike lane will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17 near the exit to
Bird Road as work crews collect soil samples.
TURNPIKE TOLL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE – VARIOUS LOCATIONS

One lane will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. at the following locations for toll equipment maintenance. At least
one lane will remain open.
o Northbound Turnpike exit and southbound entrance at Kendall Drive/Southwest 88th Street (Exit 20) –

I-595 EXPRESS CORRIDOR (MILEPOSTS 53-55)
Currently, Florida’s Turnpike is under construction from Griffin Road (Exit 53) to Peters Road (Milepost 55) as part of an
I-595 Express Corridor utility project. Up to three lanes Turnpike lanes in each direction may be closed from 10 p.m. to 5
a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 17.
 At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

TURNPIKE MAINTENANCE – MILEPOST 66-67

Up to two of three northbound and southbound lanes on the Turnpike immediately north of the Pompano
Service Plaza will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 17.
SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY – ALL-ELECTRONIC TOLLING CONVERSION

Motorists may run into single- and double-lane closures northbound and southbound at various locations throughout
the Sawgrass Expressway between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17, for installation
or removal of signs.

The Northbound Sawgrass Expressway entrance from Commercial Boulevard AND the southbound exit to
Commercial Boulevard may be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.
o Northbound DETOUR: Traffic should take Nob Hill Road north to Atlantic Boulevard and then go west to the
Sawgrass Expressway.
o Southbound DETOUR: Traffic should exit at Atlantic Boulevard and take Nob Hill Road south to Commercial
Boulevard.

Southbound AND Northbound Sawgrass Expressway exits to Lyons Road will close as needed
ALTERNATELY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Friday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o Southbound DETOUR: Traffic should exit the Sawgrass at U.S. 441, go north to Hillsboro Boulevard then
east to Lyons Road.
o Northbound DETOUR: Traffic should exit at U.S. 441, go south to Wiles Road and then east to Lyons Road.

Southbound Sawgrass Expressway entrance from Lyons Road will close from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, to 5
a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16.

DETOUR: Traffic should travel north on W. Hillsboro Blvd. to U.S. 441, then travel south on U.S. 441 to enter
the Sawgrass.

Northbound Sawgrass Expressway entrance from Sample Road AND Southbound Sawgrass Expressway exit
to Sample Road will be closed ALTERNATELY from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Friday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic will be detoured to Coral Ridge Drive.

Northbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to northbound U.S. 441 will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 to
5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic should use the exit to southbound U.S. 441, make a U-turn and head north.

One of three northbound Sawgrass Expressway lanes approaching the Deerfield Toll Plaza will be closed from
9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, to Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Up to two of three lanes on the northbound Sawgrass Expressway in the vicinity of Sunrise Boulevard will be
closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Sawgrass Expressway was converted into an all-electronic, no-cash toll road on April 19,
2014. Tollbooths are being removed and replaced with all-electronic tolling gantries. Construction will take place from July
2013 through early 2015. Approximate cost: $40.6 million.
SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY – MILLING AND RESURFACING

Two of three southbound lanes on the Sawgrass Expressway from milepost 0 to 8 may be closed from 9 p.m.
to 6 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.

Southbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to Oakland Park Boulevard will be closed as needed from 11 p.m. to 5
a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic should exit at Commercial Boulevard, go east to Nob Hill Road, then south to Oakland
Park Boulevard and travel west to enter the Sawgrass.

Sunrise Boulevard entrance to Northbound Sawgrass Expressway will be closed as needed from 11 p.m. to 5
a.m. between Sunday Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Flamingo Road north to Oakland Park Boulevard then travel west to Sawgrass
Expressway.

Commercial Boulevard entrance to Southbound Sawgrass Expressway will be closed as needed from 11 p.m.
to 5 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Flamingo Road north to Oakland Park Boulevard, then travel east to enter the
Sawgrass.

Atlantic Boulevard entrance to Southbound Sawgrass Expressway will be closed as needed from 11 p.m. to 5
a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Hiatus Road north to Commercial Boulevard then travel west to Sawgrass
Expressway.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Asphalt pavement on the Sawgrass Expressway is being replaced from its southern terminus
at Interstate 75 to south of Atlantic Boulevard in Broward County. The $7.7 million project is scheduled to be completed in
early 2015.
PALM BEACH COUNTY
LAKE WORTH ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT (EXIT 93)

No closures scheduled.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A dedicated westbound right turn lane from Lake Worth Road to Florida’s Turnpike ramp
entrance at Milepost 93 is being constructed. The $370,000 project is expected to be finished in late 2014.
OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD RAMP IMPROVEMENT – (EXIT 99)

The southbound exit ramp to Okeechobee Boulevard will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. between
Sunday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 17.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A realignment and repaving project on the southbound exit ramp from Florida’s Turnpike to
Okeechobee Boulevard (Exit 99) in Palm Beach County. The $1 million project is expected to be complete in fall 2014.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY
PORT ST. LUCIE/FORT PIERCE SERVICE PLAZA RECONSTRUCTION – (MILEPOST 144)

The Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce/Service Plaza (mile marker 144) on Florida’s Turnpike is under reconstruction.
The facility’s gas station, convenience store and restaurants will remain open to travelers throughout the two-year
improvement project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The renovation and reconstruction of the Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce Service Plaza includes a
40,000-square-foot restaurant building; 3,500-square-foot convenience store and fueling pumps; and expanded truck
parking. The $21 million upgrade project is expected to be complete in 2016.
