The Summary of the Law
BCP p. 324
Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it:
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

Lord, we pray thee that thy grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to
good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Lessons
Isaiah 25:1-9
O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things,
plans formed of old, faithful and sure. For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the
palace of aliens is a city no more, it will never be rebuilt. Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of
ruthless nations will fear you. For you have been a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their
distress, a shelter from the rainstorm and a shade from the heat. When the blast of the ruthless was like a
winter rainstorm, the noise of aliens like heat in a dry place, you subdued the heat with the shade of
clouds; the song of the ruthless was stilled. On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained
clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread
over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all
faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will
be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the
LORD for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

BCP. p. 612, BCP
1 The LORD is my shepherd; *
I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures *
and leads me beside still waters.
3 He revives my soul *
and guides me along right pathways for his Name's sake.
4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I shall fear no evil; *
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You spread a table before me in the presence of those
who trouble me; *
you have anointed my head with oil,
and my cup is running over.
6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days
of my life, *
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the be-ginning, is now and will be for-ever.
A-men.
Philippians 4:1-9
My brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way,
my beloved. I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you also,
my loyal companion, help these women, for they have struggled beside me in the work of the gospel,
together with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life. Rejoice in the
Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not
worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and
your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just,
whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is
anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and
received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
Glory be to thee, O Lord.
Matthew 22:1-14
Once more Jesus spoke to the people in parables, saying: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a
king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the
wedding banquet, but they would not come. Again he sent other slaves, saying, `Tell those who have been
invited: Look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and
everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.' But they made light of it and went away, one to his
farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them. The king
was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his
slaves, `The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore into the main streets, and
invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.' Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all
whom they found, both good and bad; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came
in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing a wedding robe, and he said to him,
`Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to
the attendants, `Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.' For many are called, but few are chosen."

The Sermon
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen

The Prayers of the People
In peace, we pray to you, Lord God.
Form VI, p. 392
For all people in their daily life and work;
For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.
For this community, the nation, and the world;
For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.
For the just and proper use of your creation;
For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.
For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;
For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.
For the peace and unity of the Church of God;
For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.
For Katherine, our Presiding Bishop; for Philip, our Bishop; and for all Bishops and other ministers;
For all who serve God in his Church.
For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.
A few moments of silence.
(Today’s Intercessor will now read congregational prayers for healing, protection and thanksgiving.)
Hear us, Lord;
For your mercy is great.
We thank you Lord, for all the blessings of this life.
Silence.
We will exalt you, O God our King;
And praise your name for ever and ever.
We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom.
Silence.
Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.
We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.
The Confession
BCP p. 331
Celebrant and People:
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against thee in thought, word, and deed, by what we
have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved thee with our whole heart; we have
not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of thy Son
Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in thy will, and walk in thy ways, to
the glory of thy Name. Amen.
Celebrant: Almighty God our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to
all those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him, have mercy upon you, pardon and
deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting
life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up unto the Lord.
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
It is meet and right so to do.
Celebrant: It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give
thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ our Lord;
according to whose true promise the Holy Ghost came down from heaven, lighting upon the disciples, to
teach them and to lead them into all truth; uniting peoples of many tongues in the confession of one faith,
and giving to thy Church the power to serve thee as a royal priesthood, and to preach the gospel to all
nations.
Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy
glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying,
The Sanctus
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts:
Heaven and earth are full of thy glory.
Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High.
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
S-114
(The congregation may stand, kneel or sit.)
The Celebrant continues:
All glory be to thee, O Lord our God, for that thou didst create heaven and earth, and didst make us in
thine own image; and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon
him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for
the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory
of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again.
For in the night in which he was betrayed, he took bread; and when he had given thanks to thee, he broke
it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in
remembrance of me." Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to
them, saying, "Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and
for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me."
Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts
which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in
remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and
looking for his coming again with power and great glory.
And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to
bless and sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the Body and Blood of thy
dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ.
And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving,
whereby we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee,
that all who partake of this Holy Communion may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of
thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy
whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him; through the same
Jesus Christ our Lord;
By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost all honor and glory be unto thee,
O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.
And now, as our Savior Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say,

BCP p. 339
Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these holy
mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus
Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very
members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed company of all faithful people; and are
also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father,
so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works
as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy
Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.
A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis (in unison)
Lord, make us instruments of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury,
pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where
there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled
as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we
receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
