TABARDS All Media working trackside or in the pit lane must wear a TABARD with ID number. Tabards MUST be worn. DO NOT tuck them in your belt. Tabard Numbers MUST be visible at all times. Photographers must not wear camera backpacks while taking images or put their own photo vests on top of the event tabards. 2. RED ZONES There are restricted areas, these are indicated on the map that will be available in the media centre and also on page 8 of this document. You are required to check this map and be aware of these restricted areas. Anyone caught taking photographs in these areas will be required to report to the FIA Media Delegate to explain their actions and their track side access passes will be withdrawn. THIS PHOTOGRAPHER RECEIVED A 12 MONTH BAN FOR TAKING PICTURES FROM A RED ZONE AT LE MANS – DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! USE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT - Even if an area is not classified as a Red Zone, you must make your own assessment whether it is safe to stand in that area or not. SAFETY BARRIERS YOU MUST HAVE A BARRIER BETWEEN YOU AND THE TRACK AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE TRACK IS LIVE. It is forbidden to lean on, or over, the barriers. You may not cross these barriers, or place your cameras on these barriers. Do not stand in breaks in the barriers. You must not stand in front of any debris fence unless authorised to do so. In both these images the photographers in the green tabards are NOT acting in accordance with these instructions. b. Earphones / ear plugs At the 2011 24 Heures du Mans, during the first Audi crash, a photographer was seen walking away completely oblivious to what was happening behind them (we are now aware of the identity of this photographer). You MUST be aware of your surroundings at all times. EARPLUGS: If you wear earplugs when working trackside you must ensure you are aware of your surroundings. RADIO: If listening to the commentary on a radio, only use one ear piece, not two. The use of iPods and MP3 players when working trackside is strictly forbidden. Page | 11 c. Staying behind the barriers at all times while the track is live. During the same incident in 2011 at Le Mans several photographers were seen to have gone onto the gravel trap to take pictures of McNish coming out of the wreckage of the Audi while the cars were under a safety car. THE TRACK WAS STILL LIVE! If any photographer is seen doing this during this event they will be instantly be removed from the circuit and they will be banned from working trackside at an FIA WEC event for 12 months, including the 2014 24 Heures du Mans. 4. PITLANE The pit-lane is a place of work, and can be dangerous. PITLANE PASS: You may only access the pitlane if you have a PITLANE pass Wear sensible clothing. Shorts, skirts and open-toed shoes are not advisable when working trackside and are banned when working in the pitlane. The pitlane is a working area and a dangerous environment. All media MUST be wearing Fire Proof Overalls and a Helmet during ALL FIA WEC sessions. Helmets can be any used for extreme sports and a cycle helmet meeting the current European safety standards is adequate. FIA 8856-2000 fireproofs are mandatory for access to the pitlane. Here is the reason why this new rule has been brought into effect. Page | 12 FIRE PROOF SUITS AND HELMETS ARE MANDATORY IN THE PITLANE DURING FIA WEC SESSIONS WARNING: Anyone seen working in the pitlane wearing inappropriate clothing will have their pitlane access withdrawn for this and all other FIA WEC events in 2014. Remain alert at all times. If someone is waving a pit board in front of you, a car is almost certainly coming up behind you. Get out of the way! Remember that cars want to leave as soon as possible after their stops. Be aware of this, and move to the back of the car rapidly. CHECKING YOUR PICTURES – If you feel the need to check your pictures on your camera please step into a garage. DO NOT look at your LCD screen in the pitlane with your back to the traffic. NO TRIPODS OF ANY DESCRIPTION ARE PERMITTED IN THE PITLANE. Monopods are permitted. 5. Working Trackside Be aware of your surroundings. Do not use flash head on into the drivers eyes at night. Use of flash from the side or rear is permitted. The consumption of alcohol in working areas is strictly forbidden. If you want a drink there are plenty of outlets in the public areas. 6. PARC FERME Parc Fermé is out of bounds to the Media – no exceptions. 7. GRID and PODIUM All photographers with track and pitlane tabards will receive access to the grid and the podium area. Grid access for photographers will be granted AFTER the pitlane has closed, not before. The only photographers allowed on the podium are the host TV cameraman, the Official photographer of the circuit and the official photographer of the Championship. 8. VIDEO A photographer’s pass only grants you the right to take still pictures; you cannot take video images trackside on a DSLR with an HD Video Function without permission. 9. SERVICE ROADS All services MUST be kept clear at all times, this is an emergency vehicle route. TV Camera Tripods must not block the service road. 10. In case of problems, please do not attempt to solve the situation yourself, but report them to the FIA Media Delegate or National Press Officer.
