The 14th International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition
11 - 18 October 2014
Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen
Bergen
On Saturday 11 October 2014, 26 talented pianists from 16 different countries
will converge in hopeful anticipation on Grieg’s home, Troldhaugen, in Bergen.
In the course of one week they will compete for honour and glory – and a first
prize consisting of 30 000 euro. It is the second time the competition will be
arranged in Bergen.
Edvard Grieg (1843 – 1907) is undoubtedly Norway’s greatest composer and his
home, Villa Troldhaugen, is one of the country’s most famous attractions.
Villa Troldhaugen
The initial rounds of the competition will take place in the museum’s uniquely
designed chamber music hall, Troldsalen, from 12 to 16 October.
In the final round of the competition, which will take place in Grieghallen on
Saturday 18 October, the finalists will give solo performances accompanied by the
Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras,
and which Grieg also used to conduct.
The jury consists of the renowned pianists:
Leif Ove Andsnes (Norway), Oxana Yablonskaya (Russia), Ya-Fei Chuang (Taiwan/
USA), Dominique Merlet (France), Marianna Shirinyan (Armenia), Jens Harald
Bratlie (Norway) and Einar Steen-Nøkleberg (Chairman).

About the competition
The International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition is a biannual
competition for pianists from all over the world, arranged by the
Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen.
The competition is open to all pianists born in the years 1981 – 1997, and
offers not only a world-class arrangement, but also the unique opportunity
to get an understanding of Grieg’s world of inspiration by experiencing
Norwegian hospitality, culture and nature.

In 2000 professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg founded the piano competition

Troldhaugen in Bergen. With this move, the prizes increased and the Bergen
