THANK YOU
The St Vincent De Paul group would like to thank the
generosity of the work the Social Group, run by Marlene
Axiak. They worked tirelessly to raise money through
her Family Night at Resurrection Hall. The night was
very entertaining for all.
The amount raised was $230.00.
The Seniors Group, led by Jane Caruana and her
helpers raised money by way of sausage sizzle after
Mass and an overwhelming amount as well.
The amount raised was $500.00.
Families in need, especially leading up to Christmas will
benefit from their generosity. As we all know, bills keep
coming in and families on low incomes that are paying
rent, find it very difficult to survive.
Without the help of Resurrection Parishioners,
Christmas would not be as memorable. Families find
paying bills and preparing for Christmas a little
overwhelming. The money raised will go towards
helping families through tough times and put a smile on
the faces of the many we visit in the next few months.
The generosity of the parish of Resurrection is very
inspiring and without the help of the leaders who work
tirelessly with their groups – where would we be?

ATTENTION: SEWERS!
During the cold Winter months, a plea was made to all
Knitters to knit warm winter beanies for Cancer patients.
Resurrection Parishioners came through with flying
colours. The response was nothing short of a miracle!
Now that the sun is beginning to shine and the weather
warming up, we are trying to gather as many scarves,
bandanas and summer hats as we can. Once again,
these will be distributed amongst the cancer patients in
a number of hospitals. They need to be of light-weight
fabric, perfect for keeping the sun off during the hot
summer months. Parishioners who love to sew and
have scraps of cotton at home can sew them into
triangle bandanas for patients to tie around their head.
All donations can be left at the Parish Office in the
Bulletin pigeon hole.

APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION
EVANGELII GAUDIUM
OF THE HOLY FATHERFRANCIS TO THE BISHOPS, CLERGY, CONSECRATED PERSONS
AND THE LAY FAITHFUL ON THE PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL IN TODAY’S WORLD
Star of the new evangelization
287. We ask the Mother of the living Gospel to intercede that this invitation to a new phase of evangelization will be
accepted by the entire ecclesial community. Mary is the woman of faith, who lives and advances in faith, and “her
exceptional pilgrimage of faith represents a constant point of reference for the Church”. Mary let herself be guided by the
Holy Spirit on a journey of faith towards a destiny of service and fruitfulness. Today we look to her and ask her to help us
proclaim the message of salvation to all and to enable new disciples to become evangelizers in turn. Along this journey of
evangelization we will have our moments of aridity, darkness and even fatigue. Mary herself experienced these things during
the years of Jesus’ childhood in Nazareth: “This is the beginning of the Gospel, the joyful good news. However, it is not
difficult to see in that beginning a particular heaviness of heart, linked with a sort of night of faith – to use the words of
Saint John of the Cross – a kind of ‘veil’ through which one has to draw near to the Invisible One and to live in intimacy
with the mystery. And this is the way that Mary, for many years, lived in intimacy with, the mystery of her Son, and went
forward in her pilgrimage of faith”.
288. There is a Marian “style” to the Church’s work of evangelization. Whenever we look to Mary, we come to believe
once again in the revolutionary nature of love and tenderness. In her we see that humility and tenderness are not virtues of
the weak but of the strong who need not treat others poorly in order to feel important themselves. Contemplating Mary, we
realize that she who praised God for “bringing down the mighty from their thrones” and “sending the rich away empty” (Lk
1:52-53) is also the one who brings a homely warmth to our pursuit of justice. She is also the one who carefully keeps “all
these things, pondering them in her heart” (Lk 2:19). Mary is able to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and
small. She constantly contemplates the mystery of God in our world, in human history and in our daily lives. She is the
woman of prayer and work in Nazareth, and she is also Our Lady of Help, who sets out from her town “with haste” (Lk
1:39) to be of service to others. This interplay of justice and tenderness, of contemplation and concern for others, is what
makes the ecclesial community look to Mary as a model of evangelization. We implore her maternal intercession that the
Church may become a home for many peoples, a mother for
all peoples, and that the way may be opened to the birth of a new world. It is the Risen Christ who tells us, with a power that
fills us with confidence and unshakeable hope: “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5). With Mary we advance
confidently towards the fulfilment of this promise, and to her we pray:
Mary, Virgin and Mother, you who, moved by the Holy Spirit, welcomed the word of life in the depths of your humble faith:
as you gave yourself completely to the Eternal One, help us to say our own “yes” to the urgent call, as pressing as ever, to
proclaim the good news of Jesus.
Filled with Christ’s presence, you brought joy to John the Baptist, making him exult in the womb of his mother. Brimming
over with joy, you sang of the great things done by God. Standing at the foot of the cross with unyielding faith, you received
the joyful comfort of the resurrection, and joined the disciples in awaiting the Spirit so that the evangelizing Church might be
born.
Obtain for us now a new ardour born of the resurrection, that we may bring to all the Gospel of life which triumphs over
death. Give us a holy courage to seek new paths, that the gift of unfading beauty may reach every man and woman.
Virgin of listening and contemplation, Mother of love, Bride of the eternal wedding feast, pray for the Church, whose pure
icon you are, that she may never be closed in on herself or lose her passion for establishing God’s kingdom.
Star of the new evangelization, help us to bear radiant witness to communion, service, ardent and generous faith, justice and
love of the poor, that the joy of the Gospel may reach to the ends of the earth, illuminating even the fringes of our world.
Mother of the living Gospel, wellspring of happiness for God’s little ones, pray for us.
Amen.
Alleluia!

Next Week’s Reading – 19th October, 2014.
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year A
Reading I
IS 45:1, 4-6
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, Cyrus, whose
right hand I grasp, subduing nations before him,
and making kings run in his service, opening doors
before him and leaving the gates unbarred:
For the sake of Jacob, my servant, of Israel, my
chosen one, I have called you by your name,
giving you a title, though you knew me not. I am
the LORD and there is no other, there is no God
besides me. It is I who arm you, though you know
me not, so that toward the rising and the setting of
the sun people may know that there is none
besides me. I am the LORD, there is no other.
Tell us, then, what is your opinion:
Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?"
Knowing their malice, Jesus said,
"Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
Show me the coin that pays the census tax."
Then they handed him the Roman coin.
He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose
inscription?"
They replied, "Caesar's."
At that he said to them,
"Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar
and to God what belongs to God."
Responsorial Psalm
PS 96:1, 3, 4-5, 7-8, 9-10
R/ (7b) Give the Lord glory and honor.
Reading 2
1 THES 1:1-5B
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of the
Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ: grace to you and peace. We give thanks to
God always for all of you, remembering you in our
prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of
faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of
our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father,
knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how
you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to
you in word alone, but also in power and in the
Holy Spirit and with much conviction.
Gospel
MT 22:15-21
The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might
entrap Jesus in speech.
They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians,
saying,
"Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man
and that you teach the way of God in
accordance with the truth. And you are not
concerned with anyone's opinion,
for you do not regard a person's status.

Reflection
Life and religion
Who can separate his faith from his actions,
or his belief from his occupations?
Who can spread his hours before him, saying:
“This for God and this for myself;
this for my soul and this other for my body?”
He who wears his morality but as his best garment
were better naked.
Your daily life is your temple and your religion.
Whenever you enter into it take with you your all.
Take the plough and the forge and the mallet and
the lute,
the things you have fashioned in necessity or for
delight.
And take with you all men.
And if you would know God … look about you
and you will see him playing with your children.
