THAI celebrates ‘smooth
as silk’ migration to
Amadeus Altéa
Used by the majority of Star Alliance carriers, Amadeus Altéa streamlines and improves sales,
reservation, inventory and departure control processes for THAI
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited
(THAI), one of the world’s most awarded carriers, and
Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global
travel industry, today celebrate THAI’s successful
migration to the complete Amadeus Altéa Suite.
The Amadeus Altéa Suite, already used by over
120 airlines globally, addresses THAI’s missioncritical operating functions: sales and reservations,
inventory and ticketing, and departure control. The
new system will support THAI’s business goals by
allowing enhanced operations and functionality, to
improve customer service and drive more efficient
business operations.
The large-scale project, which involved training more
than 12,000 THAI employees worldwide, saw over
500,000 Passenger Name Records (PNRs) and 1.5
million e-tickets moved to the Amadeus Altéa
Suite. Additionally, over 60 THAI airport stations
moved to Amadeus Altéa Departure Control
Customer Management and Flight Management
solutions.
Used by over 65% of Star Alliance members, the
Amadeus Altéa Suite facilitates closer integration
between partner airlines that need to share availability, fares, customer and booking information,
enabling a seamless customer experience across
alliance members. The Amadeus Altéa Suite is Star
Alliance’s Common IT Platform (CITP).
CITP is a strategic programme, focused on the effort
to better serve the customer, markedly lower IT costs
and significantly increase the speed of delivering
new products to market. It enables participating
member airlines to improve customer services
and enhance operational capabilities.

Flying Officer Suraphon Israngura Na Ayuthya,
THAI’s Acting Executive Vice President, Commercial, said, "We are pleased to have implemented a
system that is flexible enough to meet the demands
of our passengers today, and also prepare THAI for
further growth. Right from the start we knew we
were in good hands, given Amadeus’ excellent track
record in implementing large-scale IT systems for
the world’s best airlines. The level of dedication and
professionalism demonstrated by the Amadeus
project team ensured that migration was smooth
as silk. The successful migration helps us deliver on
our commitment to put the traveller first, and is a
big step forward for us as we strive to become the
leading airline in Asia and among the best
worldwide."
“The success of a project of this magnitude would
not have been possible without strong collaboration
between THAI and Amadeus. We are proud to be
the technology backbone for THAI, providing a
scalable and robust IT environment to help THAI
grow its business and improve its competitiveness
in one of the most dynamic regions in the world,”
added Hazem Hussein, Head of Airline Organisation, Amadeus Asia Pacific.
THAI and Amadeus have enjoyed a long term
partnership since 1990. THAI also recently extended
its full content agreement with Amadeus.
Amadeus continues growth as
JAL signs for Altéa as part of
IT transformation programme
• Oneworld member JAL to migrate to Amadeus’ full Altéa Suite for reservations, inventory and departure control modules.
• JAL to fully modernise its passenger service system (PSS) across both its domestic and international business
Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global
travel industry, and Japan Airlines (JAL), one of the
leading Asia-Pacific carriers which operates more
than 220 aircra domestically and overseas, today
announce that an agreement has been reached for
Amadeus to provide the airline with its full Altéa
Suite of IT solutions.
The agreement, which sees JAL become the latest
oneworld airline to adopt Amadeus’ Altéa, will allow
the airline to replace its existing passenger service
system, which was originally activated back in 1969.
With this in mind JAL will migrate to Altéa in order to
deliver a modern, customer-centric IT foundation
across both its domestic and international routes.
JAL undertook the decision to modernise its
approach to IT as part of a wider corporate transformation programme. To ensure a smooth migration to
the Altéa Suite, the process will be supported by the
local Amadeus Airline IT team based in Tokyo.
Hideki Kikuyama, Senior Managing Executive
Officer Management Division Route Marketing,
Japan Airlines said, “We are very proud to have
signed this important contract with Amadeus as it
becomes a strategic IT partner to Japan Airlines. Our
aim is to deliver a high quality, full service offering
for international flights whilst delivering convenience
and simplicity for domestic flights. The latest
approaches to customer management and IT are
fundamental to this strategy and we have found a
partner in Amadeus willing to invest in only the most
modern, future-looking and cutting-edge solutions.”
Julia Sattel, Senior Vice President, Airline IT,
Amadeus added, “We are extremely pleased to
welcome JAL into our growing Altéa community.
This agreement follows a period of sustained growth
for our suite of products and services across the
entire Asia Pacific region in particular. Indeed, as
well as JAL we are currently working with a number
of leading airlines across the region, and our
commitment to Asia has never been higher. Both in
Asia Pacific and beyond we are helping our
customers to better connect, manage and serve
the evolving 21st Century traveller”.
Sattel continued, “In parallel, as our technology is
based upon open systems we are confident that it
will deliver the flexibility, responsiveness and
scalability required to cater to JAL’s evolving
commercial requirements.”
To date, more than 120 airlines have contracted for
Amadeus Altéa. Based on existing contracts,
Amadeus estimates that by 2015 the number of
Passengers Boarded (PBs) managed by Altéa will
be around 800 million.

AirAsia is the first airline in
Asia Pacific to implement new
Amadeus technology for
travel agencies
Booking AirAsia flights via Amadeus is now even easier – for the first time,
new technology delivers same booking flow as a full-service carrier
AirAsia, the world’s best low-cost airline for six
years in a row, is the first airline in Asia Pacific to
implement light ticketing technology from
Amadeus, a leading technology provider for the
global travel industry, which gives travel agencies
an even simpler way to book the airline’s content.
For the first time, traditional shopping, booking
and back-office flows will be combined with
real-time dynamic fares provided through
AirAsia’s XML connection with Amadeus.
Amadeus connected travel agencies can view
and compare AirAsia fares in the same screen
as full-service carriers, something not previously
possible. The new AirAsia booking process with
Amadeus is up to five times faster than booking
outside of the GDS.

Rayner Teo, AirAsia’s Group Head of Sales
said “We are pleased to offer travel agencies
an easier way to book AirAsia’s extensive fare
inventory, which will translate into an increase
of flight bookings for the region.
“Amadeus is fundamental to our growth strategy
moving forward. We fly to over 80 destinations
around Asia every day and this partnership with
Amadeus will allow us to reach a broader sales
channel,” Teo added.
Key benefits for travel agencies include:
• Mid and back-office integration and sales
reporting : AirAsia flight bookings can now
be fully integrated in travel agents’ internal
reporting processes, allowing them to track
their business performance automatically.
All mid and back-office processes will be
integrated, significantly reducing time spent
on administrative tasks, following the same
process as full-service carriers. Amadeus and
AirAsia also plan to work together to further
enhance mid and back-office integration and
sales reporting in select BSP (Billing Settlement Plan) markets.
• Smooth and seamless availability with
increased flexibility : With direct access to
AirAsia’s inventory, Amadeus travel agents
can view seats in real-time, make a booking
using either the GUI (graphic user interface)
or the ‘green screen’, and then issue an AirAsia
ticket without needing to learn new system
commands.
Hazem Hussein, EVP, Airline Commercial,
Amadeus Asia Pacific commented, “This
agreement allows AirAsia to better reach the
growing corporate sector via Amadeus’ extensive
network of travel agencies around the world. This
will pave the way for improved yield for the
airline.”
“We are proud to have worked with AirAsia since
2006, continually exploring news ways to
improve the travel agency booking process.
AirAsia’s innovative thinking is one of the many
reasons they are leaders in their field,” added
Hussein.
Today, more than 70 low-cost and hybrid airlines
are bookable via Amadeus, and their bookings
made in the Amadeus system increased by 21%
in 2013.
