Education for All in Latin America and the Caribbean:
Assessment of progress and post-2015 challenges
Regional Education Project for Latin America and the Caribbean (PRELAC)
Ministerial Meeting
Lima, Peru, 30-31 October 2014
JW Marriot Hotel, Miraflores
1. With less than 500 days until the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the six
Education for All (EFA) targets, a series of Ministerial Conferences are being organised in the different
regions as a follow-up to the Global Education Meeting (GEM) of Muscat, Oman, 12-14 May 2014 and in
preparation for the Global “Education for All” Forum to be held in South Korea, May 19-22 2015. These
meetings also take stock of the ongoing discussions in the Open Working Group of the General Assembly of
UN on Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 4. “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality
education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
2. The expected results of the meeting are twofold:
a) A statement to be adopted by the ministers of education that captures their regional vision for the
post-2015 education agenda; and
b) A roadmap on the design, implementation and monitoring of the upcoming post-2015 education
agenda in the region which will also be presented at the Global “Education for All” Forum, May 2015, in
South Korea.
