D ear Colleagues,
the 19th Congress of IAGP will convene in Rovinj, Croatia, from the 31st of August to the 5th of
September 2015.
The theme of the Congress “Despair and Desire in Times of Crisis – Groups in the city …
of the world” is both a recognition of the stressful and painful times in which we live, and an
appreciation of the confluence of the power of culture and society upon the individual, and
hence the groups in which we are members.
This Congress will provide a platform for investigation, analysis and dialogue of issues and
processes that affect all of us regardless of our ethnic, cultural, political similarities or differences. We need to continue to raise our consciousness about such global issues as trauma,
poverty, hunger, war and natural disasters. Therefore the conference will focus on:
1. The emotional impact of man-made and natural disasters: How does trauma, mourning
and the transgenerational transmission of chosen traumas and glories impact on people?
(Clinical experience and investigation).
2. Humanity on the move: How do human rights violations through globalization, migration, exile, persecution, torture and sexual violence impact emotionally on people? (Clinical experience and investigation)
3. Authority and power: How can consultancy, coaching, training and capacity building
enhance people’s capacity to function in institutions with humanity? (Health management and investigation)
4. Love, life and labor in a virtual world: How do people (men, women, children, adolecents,
young adults, elderly, handicapped, rich and poor) in places (megacities and remote
parts of the world) use internet-based communication to relate to one another? How
does this affect their emotional capacity to love, to work and to communicate with others, such as in therapy, in consultancy, in trainings, in school, in workshops and in their
daily lives? (Clinical experience and investigation)
5. In addition to these issues, there will be a special highlight, offering open experiential
groups inside and outside the conference and in public places of the city.
We invite you to join us in this journey by submitting proposals for Workshops, Symposiums, Courses, Ongoing Experiential Groups, Paper Panels, Posters and Video Sessions
and ideas for Groups in the City.
Submissions are due before 15 October 2014 via the online submission form (www…..). We
look forward to receiving your proposals and to an exciting Congress in 2015.
Benvenuto …. Bienvenido ….Dobrodošli….Welcome

Pre-Congress
31st of August – 1st of September 2015
Chairs: Maria van Noort and Marcia Almeida Batista
The Pre-congress workshops are designed to provide an intensive learning experience for
participants over a 2 day period. The groups provide experiential and cognitive learning.
They may be process oriented and/or explore familiar and current theories and techniques
of group work. The leaders/conductors are by invitation and selected for their expertise in
group analysis, psychodrama, psychodynamic groups, family therapy, trans-cultural issues,
organizational consultation, group processes and social-educational groups. Groups will be
either in English, Italian or Spanish.
Congress
2nd of September – 5th of September 2015
Chairs: Elisabeth Rohr
Vice Chairs: Einar Gudmundsson and Enrique Stola
The focus of the Congress is to promote dialogue among the participants, and awareness of
the world that we live in, as well as broadening scientific knowledge. The Congress format of
interactive small and median groups, workshops, symposiums, coffee breaks, end of the day
Large Groups, open Groups in the City and social events and activities, provides an opportunity for participants to communicate with and learn about and connect and share with each
other. Sessions will be either in English, Italian or Spanish.
Congress scientific activities
The official language of the Congress is English, some presentations will be in either Italian
and Spanish.
Workshops
Organized around a specific topic or theme. The focus of the workshop is interactive: where
information is exchanged between the participants and the leader(s). Workshops may have
1-3 leaders. Sessions are 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Symposia
Panels organized around a theme: chair plus 2 or 3 panelists and discussants. The symposium
format can be a single session symposium or an ongoing symposium, where a major theme in
the field is explored in depth over 3- 4 days. Each day session will last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Courses
Teaching the essentials of a major topic over 2 or 3 days. Content is usually didactic, but can also include demonstrations and experiential components. Each day session will last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Papers
Two or three papers organized around a related theme. The sessions will last 1 hour and 15
minutes.
Poster Sessions
A visual presentation of a topic mounted on poster.
Video Sessions
Presentation and discussion of original videos that have clinical relevance. Sessions will
last 1? hours. Videos will be presented in a continuous round about during the Congress.
Groups in the City
The idea is to invite citizens and tourists of Rovinj to take part in these open ‘Groups in
the City’ to mingle and/or work with congress participants.
These could be reflective citizens events, regular evening performances, play back theatre
or sociodrama, theatres of spontaneity or dance therapy in the squares of Rovinj, in the
theatres, in social centres or within the congress venue. More focussed events could also
be offered. We leave it to you to think creatively about new possibilities in this area and
make a proposal.
In your proposal, you should include who the ‘audience’ might be, how you would attract
them, where you might hold the event, the numbers you would work with, any limits to
membership that you might need, and the methodology you would use.
Small and Median Groups
Organized at the end of each day’s sessions. The goal is to offer all participants a time to reflect on their experiences at the Congress, share thoughts about the Congress theme or other
issues of concern. Groups will be conducted in English, Italian and Spanish. Session will last 1
hour and 30 minutes.
Large Group
Organized at the end of each day’s sessions. The goal is to offer all participants a time to reflect on their experiences at the Congress, share thoughts about the Congress theme or other
issues of concern. Groups will be conducted in English, Italian and Spanish. Session will last 1
