You’ve heard it said, she’s a girl who is well-bred.

You’ve heard it said, she’s a girl who is well-bred.
For her college, she’ll stand any test; Her motto is skill,
Her creed is good will, And here’s how you know her best;
If she smiles through thick and thin, she’s the Bennett Ideal
If she strives wholeheartedly to win, She’s the Bennett Ideal
If she’s honest and willing to share,
If she’s eager to do and to dare.
Pep and vitality, Sweet personality;
She’s the Bennett Ideal.
Dr. Fuse-Hall began her inaugural address by emphatically
embracing her charge. “Having accepted the mace, medallion
and robe representing the official symbols of the office as the
17th President of Bennett College, it is my esteemed privilege
3 position! Oh what a difference a day makes!
to accept this
When I first sought this position, I did not make it and while I
could have shrank away and given up, instead I dedicated
myself to adding skills to my toolkit to ensure that if ever I
got a second chance, I would be a worthy candidate. I am
grateful to the search committee and the Board of Trustees,
who last April revived my candidacy and the Bennett Ideal
began to unfold before me.”
President Fuse-Hall asked the question, “Can Bennett
College actually make a difference in the 21st century as a
college
that educates women and with a history of serving
5
exclusively African Americans?” She answered, “Without a
doubt. Bennett was built to make a difference and she has
made a difference and with all of our assistance, she is
prepared to make a difference in the future. With the zeal of a
good old campfire revival, Bennett College and her scholars
are ready to lead throughout this global society.”

“As we reflect upon the history of these hallowed halls, we
know that at Bennett College, women entrust their hopes and
build upon their dreams of transforming themselves from
curious girls into competent scholars – eager to improve their
lives and to assume positions of leadership in their homes and
in the world of their respective professions,“ said Fuse-Hall.

culminating event for the

Bennett College was introduced to
the local community as a business
and entrepreneurship destination.
Harris, who has set the standard
high for African-American
business women, has spent over 27
years on Wall Street. In 2013, she
was appointed by President Barack
Obama to chair the National
Women’s Business Council. She

Expect to Win.
Harris’ final pearl of wisdom
was, “Use your network and expect success. Your network is the

your success equation for fear.”
In her other life, Harris is a
singer and has released her third
gospel CD, “Unceasing Praise”.
Her second CD, a gospel album,
was entitled, “Joy is Waiting”,
while her first CD was entitled,
“Carla’s First Christmas”.

Bennett College recently welcomed
a visiting delegation from Moldova
who were in the United States as part of
an Open World Program, titled
“Blogging for Democracy.”
The Moldova group consisted of six
(6) young professionals, all of whom
use social media in Moldova and who
were interested in learning more about
how social media is used in the United
States. The delegation was hosted by
the Rotary Club of Greensboro, in cooperation with the Guilford Rotary
Club. The visit to Bennett was facilitated by President Rosalind Fuse-Hall,
a member of the Rotary Club of
Greensboro.
The Bennett participants consisted
of members of the faculty from the Departments of Journalism and Media
Studies, Political Science, and Theatre.
The staff of the Center for Global Studies coordinated the presentations.
“We were especially pleased that
Sylvia Nicholson, director of Title III
and Sponsored Programs, was able to
join us. Sylvia, who is from Romania,
was able to greet our guests in their language and that was a wonderful surprise for them and clearly they were
delighted,” stated Gwendolyn Bookman, director of the Center for Global
