Welcome back to our final term and as always we seem to hit the ground running. It is great to
say “hello” to all our staff who have been travelling and especially, to Mrs Bellamy nee Carr,
after her recent wedding .This term is already jam packed so please keep our calendar handy.
We have reprinted it with a few additional items. K-2 parents please note our students will be
attending a special preview screening of “Paddington” at Glenbrook theatre on Wednesday,
10th December. This and a picnic lunch will be our K-2 students end of year party. More details
regarding cost and permission notes will be in our next newsletter but we are hoping to keep it
to around the $15 mark.
Congratulations to our successful debating team who won the semi finals against JEPS last
week and will be up against Bennett Rd in the Pool finals.
The CARES program is already underway for Year 4 –Year 6 students. Please be on time as we
are reliant on public transport and a student has already missed the first session.
The NRMA were very impressed with our school when they conducted lessons here this week .
Many thanks to the kind grandparent who organised this free show.
PSSA recommenced with the Summer Sport program commenced in Term 1.
Please ensure your child has a broad brimmed hat, water and school sports uniform. Students
are responsible for ensuring they bring any equipment needed for their sport and that they
look after said equipment.
Final call for kinder enrolments!!!!!! Our kinder parents have all been sent a formal invitation
to attend our evening information night on Thursday, 13th November commencing at 6:30pm
in the school hall. If you did not receive this invitation please contact the school ASAP to ensure
your details and enrolment form have been completed. We are currently looking at having

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM – TERM 4, 2014
Our school is actively engaged in The Active After School Communities (AASC) program. It is a free Federal
Government initiative, starting in 2005, and is delivered nationally, through the Australian Sports
Commission, to schools and out of school hour’s children services.
The AASC programs objectives are to encourage primary school children into structured physical activity
and to provide opportunities for ongoing participation in organised sport. It is interested in creating links
with local clubs, providing children with a wide range of sporting opportunities - as well as encouraging
participation in school sport, PSSA, inter-school competitions and the like.
AASP is being offered to all students. Students who wish to participate in AASA have taken notes home today
and should return the completed form (both sides need to be completed) on Thursday 16.10.14 and Friday
17.10.14. Mrs Cooper will be in the Office from 8.30am Thursday and Friday.
The program starts Week 3 and runs for seven (7) weeks concluding Week 9.
Please note that numbers are limited to sixty (60) per day but students may participate in both days if
numbers permit. Priority will be given to students who have not attended Active After School previously or
who missed out last term. You will only be notified if your child has NOT been accepted into this program.
The activities are:
Tuesday:
Netball (Commencing 21.10 .14, Week 3 - Finishing 2.12 .14, Week 9)
Thursday:
Gymnastics and Multi Skills (Commencing 23.10.14, Week 3- Finishing 4.12.14, Week 9)
Just a few reminders to ensure our program runs promptly and smoothly:
Please be aware that only the parents/caregivers (18 and over) that have been given written consent are
allowed to pick up the students at Active After School Activities. If you are sending another person to pick up
your child that is not written down on the completed permission slip, you will need to provide written
consent and it needs to be given to Mrs Cooper during the morning of AASA.
Active After School Activities commences at 3pm and finishes at 4pm. Please ensure that you pick up your
child at this time. There is very limited supervision after 4pm at school. If you are having difficulty picking
up your child/children because of unforeseen circumstances, you need to contact the school office as soon as
possible.
Parents and carers are requested not to enter the school car park either by car or on foot to drop off or
collect students. Please access the school grounds through the pedestrian gate. This is a work, health and
safety issue for the school. The school car park is for school staff only and for disabled persons following a
request to the school principal.
If your child is not attending Active After School Activities (with the exception of absence/illness) please ensure
that you contact Mrs Cooper as soon as possible during the day of Active After School Activities. Fruit will be
provided but please make sure your child has an extra bottle of water.
Finally, Active After School Activities is a great opportunity for students who are willing and motivated to
enjoy and eager to participate in our activities that we have to offer. As these activities focus on skills
development and it is not a child minding service it is important that the students are interested in the
program and want to come.
The coaches look forward to a fun and active term with students displaying ‘good manners, good thinking
and good learning.’

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
Unfortunately Mrs Cooke is no longer able to supervise children cooking muffins
on a Wednesday for Mama Lana’s Community Foundation. We would still like to
be able to donate these treats on Wednesdays. We are looking for volunteers
each TUESDAY to take a muffin box home and bake them. The muffins would
be returned to school Wednesday morning ready for Mrs Cooke to deliver that
afternoon.
If you are able to help – hopefully we will have enough volunteers so that you
will only need to bake every once in a while – please come and see Mrs Cooke
ASAP so that she can put your name on a Volunteer list. We will only need 5 or
6 people each week.
We are still collecting non perishable items – cans, pasta, biscuits etc – for the
MLCF emergency food hampers. Any donations can be placed in the white box
in the front office.
Thank You!

ART PRIZE EXHIBITION
The Exhibition theme is ‘CULTURAL SEASONS’
Muru Mittigar would like to invite artists of all genres to enter into the Aunty Edna Watson Art prize
exhibition. The theme of the exhibition is the Cultural Seasons.
The exhibition opening will also celebrate the opening of the Ngarra Aboriginal Knowledge Centre at
Muru Mittigar on the 21ST NOVEMBER 2014.
The Cultural Seasons are chosen as we live by the land and the seasons, all elements are part of our people. The
Darug Calendar follows the elements, temperature, winds, wet, dry, sun, moon, stars, storms, plant growth cycles,
animal breeding and water life movements.
All Darug stories had a meaning, stories would teach culture, respect, morals, survival and how to live. All of the
cycles in culture continue, the stories teach us our culture and the land holds our stories, our Calendar is life and our
continuation. Many indicators would prepare people for the upcoming seasons and the resources that would be
needed to survive the changing elements and to recognise certain indicators in the land that would tell the people
what they should be doing or where they should be moving to.

Closing date for artwork to arrive at Muru Mittigar is Friday 14th November 2014
Please return this form via email or post to Erin Wilkins to express interest in participation of exhibition of all genre of

Stage 2 had a great, fun Privilege day to end Term 3. Our students were able to
work with various technology activities that showed the skills they learnt over the
term. They produced iMovies, photo shots and making books.
Many children were enthused with making iMovies and so this term Year 4 are very
privileged to attend a workshop day in producing their own animated movie using
clay figurines. S2K participated in the first workshop on Monday and were so
engaged in their learning all day. It was a great success. No doubt you have all had a
view of the movie your child made. Claymation has been booked for early next year
for all Year 4 students.
A Surf Education talk was held for Stage 2 and Stage 3 students. This was a free
session where students were informed about surf safety at the beach and at pools.
An informative session all round.
