Students:
Admit slips need to be picked up between 7:30am – 7:55am for any absence(s) whether it is
for one period or the entire day. As stated on our student handbook, you must bring in
documentation for reason of absence. Be sure to arrive in a timely manner to avoid an
unexcused tardy.
The city of La Feria will be hosting their annual Halloween at the Park Festival this year on
October 25th and is looking for volunteers to help with this event. Also, there are a few
opportunities to fund-raise at the event. Some of the events that need volunteering are
running booths such as bowling, ring toss, horseshoe throw, panning for gold, "Wheel of
Fortune", musical chairs, bean bag toss, etc. Also, there will be a cake walk and a photo
booth which can be a fundraising opportunity. Please see Mr. Gonzales in room 305 or you
may contact Tabitha Outlaw at 956-797-2261.
The freshman class is selling customized decals and class T-shirts for all four grade levels. The
decals are for extracurricular activities and are $10 each. They will be in full color and
personalized with your name. Class t-shirts are $12 each. Please place your orders with
freshman officers or with Mrs. Castro in room 104.
Volunteers are needed to help with the Cystic Fibrosis 5k Run/ 1 Mile Walk on October 25,
2014 at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex. Sign up with Mrs. Duque-Garcia (counselor) to
help with the event.
Attention Bible Club members: There will be a meeting on Monday October 20 in room 107
at 7:30am. Please be present.
Juniors interested in the STEM field: HAS or High School Aerospace Scholars is looking for
Juniors who would like to participate in an all-expense paid summer program. Applications
are due by the end of October. See Mrs. Becerra for details on how you can apply! Only a
select few students are chosen! Get your applications in!
UT-RGV Brownsville will be hosting a BioMedicine Open House Community Event on
Saturday, October 18 from 10 am - 1pm. Students interested in going into the BioMedicine
program will get a chance to learn more about the program and other exciting careers in the
healthcare field. If you are interested, come by Mrs. Becerra's office to get more
information. Deadline to RSVP for this event is October 16.
Attention Bible Club Members: Candy apple orders and money is due on today, October 20
to Mrs. Gray in room 107.
BBQ tickets and or money are due to Mrs. Gray no later than October 27 in room 107. Any
tickets or money not turned in will be assumed sold and the financial responsibility will be
the student's.
Juniors and Sophomores: You will be taking the PSAT test tomorrow Wednesday October
14. It is a three hour test. You do have the option to bring a scientific or graphing calculator,
even though the math questions can be solved without a calculator. Juniors will test in the
new gym and sophomores will test in the 700 wing. Please look at the rosters to see where
you will be testing. Rosters can be found in the 100, 700 and 800 wings plus the cafeteria.
Congratulations to AnnFrancis Maldonado for placing 2nd in Veteran Literary Criticism this
past weekend at the Edinburg High School UIL Invitational meet and congratulations to
Ronnie Levrier for placing 3rd in Poetry Interpretation.

The Coca Cola Scholarship application is available online, www.cocacolascholars.org Deadline is October 31, 2014.
The Dr. Pepper Tuition Scholarship is available online,
www.drpeppertuition.com Deadline is November 15, 2014.
UT Austin Texas Advance is a major new scholarship initiative aimed at supporting the
success of economically disadvantaged individuals. Priority deadline is October 15,

The ELKS National Foundation announces the Most Valuable Student Scholarship. To
qualify applicants must demonstrate leadership and financial need. Applicants must be
U.S. citizens.
Texas Southmost College is accepting new enrollment for the spring
semester. Applications for Music Appreciation 1306 and GOVT 2306 are available. If
you are interested in taking any of these courses, please sign up in the Go-Center and
see Mrs. Cavazos, counselor.
