EXPLORER SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION
We believe every student should have the opportunity to explore the history, culture and beauty of our
nation firsthand. The Explorer Scholarship is one way we help make that possible. Select students from
around the country are awarded with this scholarship to make travel more accessible, and offered a
chance to transform the way they look at the world—and themselves.
Every year, hundreds of students apply for the Explorer Scholarship. The selection process is highly
competitive and recipients are chosen based on their essay submission and demonstrated financial
need. Essays are evaluated on argument, spelling and grammar, and creativity and play a big part in
determining scholarship recipients. All decisions are final and awards are non-transferable.

How to apply for this need-based scholarship:
1 A parent or guardian must sign and complete the Explorer Scholarship worksheet and tax form (pages 2-3).
2 T he student must answer the essay question (page 4), “Why do you want to go on this EF Explore America trip?”
3 T he worksheet, tax form and essay must be received by EF Explore America by the deadline as specified below.
Explorer Scholarships are awarded monthly, based on the following schedule. We will let you
know if you’re a winner no later than 120 days before your trip.
