GENERAL
You are hereby cordially invited to attend the SANCID Symposium which is to take place from 18 to 20
November 2014, where we are planning to once again bring together the role-players of the South
African irrigation and drainage industry for knowledge sharing and productive interaction in a setting
located in a prominent agricultural area, as well as tourism region in our country.
Theme, sub-themes and/or objectives of the conference
The main theme for the SANCID 2014 Symposium is Water, Food and Energy in the 21st Century. Under
this theme, the Symposium intends to provide a platform to explore the plethora of water management
practices employed for creating sustainable livelihoods for the people. Contributions are expected from
all related disciplines including:

Agricultural Economics and Extension and
Engineering.
Participants
The Symposium aims to attract a multi-disciplinary group of professionals involved with irrigation and
drainage in Southern Africa. Academics, professionals, practitioners, policy makers, researchers and
consultants are invited to attend and participate in this event that concerns an industry where
engineering, agricultural science, economics, finance, development and the environment come together
to create new opportunities and meet new challenges every day.
Continuing education points
The Symposium organisers have applied to the South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers to have
the SANCID 2014 Symposium accredited as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event with
ECSA. If the application is successful, attendees will be issued with a signed certificate of completion
after the Symposium.

The conference will take place from Tuesday 18 November to Thursday 20 November 2014 at Glenburn
Lodge. Glenburn Lodge is situated in the tranquility of the Zwartkops Mountains, on the banks of the
Baauwbank and Crocodile Rivers. Situated within the declared World Heritage Site, the “Cradle of
Humankind, this venue is mere 30 minutes from both Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The natural scenic beauty of Glenburn Lodge makes in the ideal setting for the SANCID Symposium 2014.
