This festival is a theme festival of Haryana State and Kurukshetra University provides the best platform for the artists and students of Haryana State. This Festival consists of 28 events. Kurukshetra University has a very long and cherished history of organizing a variety of programmes for its youth to hone their leadership qualities. We believe that our students should acquire education which extends beyond the classroom teaching. The Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs provides a number of activities to the students for their overall development. I hope that the Deptt. of Youth and Cultural Affairs is working for the promotion and preservation of rich cultural heritage through this festival. Kurukshetra University has always maintained fairness and transparency in organizing various competitive events for the students and this Rule Book is another step in this direction. This festival is a theme festival of Haryanvi State. The Students of all the Colleges and Universities of Haryana State participate in this Festival. Last year, around 2500 students participated in this Festival. The participation in this festival is increasing day by day in many folds. Professional groups like Jangam Jogi, Sapera Party, Bansali Party, Sarangi Party ,Deru Party, Beg-Piper party are also invited to give their performance just to show the glimpses of Haryana's rituals to the new generation to follow it. This year our University is intending to add some new aspects like Haryanvi Food carnival, exhibitions of Haryanvi painting by professional artists so that this festival could be known as "International Folk Festival of Haryana ". The festival consists of events like Declamation Contest in Haryanvi Language, Tit-Bits Competition in Haryanvi Language, Haryanvi Skit, Haryanvi Lok-Geet, Haryanvi Bhajan, Raagni, Haryanvi Gazal, Haryanvi Orchestra, Haryanvi Folk Instrument (Solo), Haryanvi One-Act-Play, On the Spot Painting on Haryana Jan-Jiwan, Exhibition of Painting on Haryana JanJiwan, Haryanvi Folk Costumes, Competition (Male & Female), Mono-Acting, Haryanvi Solo Dance (Male & Female), Haryanvi Group Dance, Haryanvi Group Song, Haryanvi Poetry, Haryanvi Pop Song, Saang (The Folk theatre form of Haryana), Old Antic Haryanvi Collection Exhibition, Haryanvi Quiz, Chaupal, Short Haryanvi Film. Every year, a new event is added to this Festival and this year, "Tie of Haryanvi Pagri, is being introduced. I hope this rule book will be beneficial for the participants and contingent Incharges. With Best Wishes, (Dr.M.S Poonia) 4 Haryana Day State Level Festival RASIA GROUP DANCE (Haryanvi) 1 Only one entry per college/UTD is allowed. 2 The duration of the performance will be 10 minutes. 3 The Group Dance should be in Rasia(Haryanvi style) only. 4 Each team will consist of maximum 10 participants. 5 The evaluation of the Group Dance will be based on the choreography of the Dance, Background music and costumes. No weightage will be given for the stage accessories. 6 Four Professional accompanists and two playback singers will be allowed in Group Dance Rasia. DECLAMATION CONTEST IN HARYANVI LANGUAGE a) b) c) d) e) f) All the bonafide students of the college and Universities of Haryana State are eligible to participate in this contest. A college/UTD can send a team of two speakers. The medium of expression will be Haryanvi Language. Paper reading will not be allowed. Each speaker will be given 5 to 7 minutes. The decision of the judges will be final. TIT-BITS COMPETITION IN HARYANVI LANGUAGE g) Every participant in this Tit- Bit competition shall send in writing three Tit-Bits. h) Each college/UTD cansend one participant only. i) T h e p a r t i c i p a n t w h o h a s compiled three Tit- Bits will present them orally in Haryanvi Language on the stage. j) Tit- Bits should not be obscene. Vulgar or objectionable. k) Each participant will be given 3 to 6 minutes. HARYANAVI SKIT l) Each college/UTD can send only one team. m) E a c h t e a m c o n s i s t s o f m a x i m u m 6 participants. The team may consist of all boys or girls or combined. n) The duration of the skit not to exceed 10 minutes. o) The theme, dialogues and presentation of the skit should not be vulgar or objectionable. p) Three accompanists will be allowed. 7 HARYANVI LOK-GEET & BHAJAN COMPETITION a) A college/UTD can send one student in each team. b) The medium of expression will be Haryanvi Language. c) Maximum three accompanists will be allowed. d) 5 minutes will be given to each participant. e) The theme of the song or Bhajan should not be cheap or vulgar. f) Film song and recorded tunes will not be allowed. RAAGNI a) A college/UTD can send one student. b) The medium of expression will be Haryanvi Language. c) Each participant will be given 4 to 6 minutes. d) Maximum three accompanists will be allowed. e) The theme of the Raagni should not be cheap or vulgar. 8 HARYANVI ORCHESTRA a) Each college/UTD can send only one team. b) 12 participants are allowed. c) The team can consist of upto 9 participants only (excluding accompanists). The group can consist all boy & Girls or combined. d) 3 accompanists (professional/students) are allowed. e) The duration of performance will be 7 to 10 minutes. f) Filmi song and recorded tunes will not be allowed yet folk tunes if recorded are permissible. g) The following instruments can be included in Haryanvi Orchestra: - Saarangi, Been, Nagara, Tasha, Haryanvi Tumba, Gharva, Deru, Bainjo, Clarnet, Chimta, Bansali, Algoja & all other instruments which are termed as Haryanvi Folk instruments. However, it is not necessary to include all these instruments. h) Harmonium is not allowed. HARYANAVI GAZAL a) One entry per college/UTD is allowed. b) The medium of expression of Gazal will be in Haryanvi Language. c) Three accompanists will be allowed. d) Any musical instrument can be used. e) The style of Haryanvi Gazal should be like that of Gazal. f) The composition of Haryanvi Gazal could be extracted from any composition/ Folk song/Raagni. g) The duration of Gazal is 3 to 5 minutes. h) Costume should be Haryanvi. 9 HARYANVI FOLK INSTRUMENTAL (SOLO) a) Each College/ UTD can enter only one student (male/female). b) Maximum 2 accompanists are allowed. c) Participants must bring their own instruments. d) The following instruments can be included in Haryanvi Folk Instruments: - Saarangi, Been, Nagara, Tasha, Haryanvi Tumba, Gharva, Deru, Bainjo, Clarnet, Chimta, Bansali, Algoja & all other instruments which are termed as Haryanvi Folk instruments. However, it is not necessary to include all these instruments. e) Time 3 to 6 minutes. SPOT PAINTING ON HARYANA'S JAN-JIWAN a) The medium will be poster colours, oil colours or watercolours. b) Maximum 3 hours will be given to each participant. c) A College/UTD can send maximum 2 students. d) 2 students (One male & one Female), the participant will bring their own material. e) The decision of the Judges will be final. 10 HARYANVI ONE ACT PLAY a) The play can be in Haryanvi language only. b) The Haryanvi drama can be translation of adaptation from any other language or can be regional one. c) The play can be One Act Play or portion of full-length play but there must be only one scene in either case. The play can be in prose or verse but it should not be musical. Opera performance will not be considered for competition with One Act Plays. d) The duration of the play is 30 minutes only. The time will be counted as soon as the curtain goes up or the team start giving introduction of the play. For stage time up to 10 Minutes will be given from the moment the stage is bare. However, the preceding team will have to vacate the stage with in 5 minutes of the fall of curtain to avoid delay. e) The drama team can consist of upto 9 participants (excluding the director). The group may consist of entirely male or female or mixed cast. In colleges, where co-education does not exist, male students can act the role of female and vice-versa. f) Light & property such as ordinary furniture's' will be supplied. Any special pieces of property must be arranged by the team. g) Sufficient thought & care must be exercised in choice of play which should suit the occasion and taste of the general student audience. Plays alien to our tradition, cultural and social life's should not be depicted. h) Normal light and sound purpose arrangements will be provided by the convener. Any special equipment for the purpose can be arranged by the drama team's with the prior concurrence of the Director, Youth & Cultural Affairs. 11 EXHIBITION OF PAINTING a) The exhibition will be started on 29/10/2013 at 2:30 PM in the Crush Hall. b) Each student can exhibit 2 or 3 self-made paintings in the Crush Hall of University Auditorium. c) Painting should depict the life style of Haryana people. d) The competitors will bring a certificate from the head of their Institution to the fact that the paintings have been made by the concerned students himself/herself. e) The prize-winning paintings will be the property of Youth & Cultural Affairs Department of this University. HARYANVI FOLK COSTUMES (MALE & FEMALE) a) A college/UTD can send only one male & one female participant. b) The maximum duration will be 3 minutes only. c) C o s t u m e / d r e s s / j e w e l l e r y, g e t u p a n d presentation will be taken into account for judgement. 12 HARYANVI SOLO DANCE (MALE & FEMALE SEPARATELY) a) A girl or a boy can present Haryanvi Solo Dance. b) A College/UTD can enter one male or one female participant. c) The maximum 4 accompanists will be allowed. d) The dance should be in Haryanvi style and dress. e) The duration of the dance will be 4 to 6 minutes. HARYANVI GROUP DANCE a) The group dance will be in Haryanvi style only. b) Each team will consist of maximum 10 participants. The group may consist of all boys or girls or combined. c) The duration of the dance will be 10 minutes. d) The evaluation of the dance will be based on the choreography of the dance background music and costume. No weightage will be given to the stage accessories. e) Only upto 5 accompanists/ background singers will be allowed in group dance. 13 POP SONG HARYANVI a) One entry per college/UTD is allowed. b) Each team will consist of not more than twelve participants. c) Four accompanists are allowed out of this one shall essentially be a Folk Instrumentalist. d) Pop song can be sung by one, and supported by others, or could be sung by two or supported by others. e) During the performance Costume, Style & Lyrics of the song must have symbolic representation of rich Haryanvi Culture Heritage of Haryana. f) The duration of the song will be maximum 6 to 8 minutes. g) Evaluation will be based on over all performance. h) The theme of the song should not be cheap or vulgar. MONO ACTING a) A college/UTD can send only one participant. b) Each participant will be given 4-5 minutes time. c) Marking will be based on (1) relevance (2) Quick response (3) Acting – only in Haryanvi. 14 HARYANVI CHAUPAL a) A college/ UTD can send only one team . b) Each team will consist of 6 to 8 participants only. c) Minimum duration of Chaupal is 12 mints and maximum time is 15 mints. d) The matter of Chaupal should be related to the life of Haryanvi culture, old tradition, history of Haryana, Kissa, Katha, Makhaul ,Kadke,Gapp, Gapore. HARYANVI POETRY a) Each college/UTD can sponsor maximum two students poets in this competition. b) The language will be in Haryanvi only. c) Each participant will be given 4 to 5 minute time. d) Poem(s) must be original and certified by the head of the institution. e) Contents of the composition should not be vulgar and against religious sentiments. f) There will be First, Second, Third prizes in the competition. g) The decision of the judges will be final and binding to all. 15 HARYANVI GROUP SONG a) The team may consist of all boys or all girls or mixed. b) The judgement will be on basis of quality of singing only and make up, costume and action of the team will not be taken into account. c) The team can consist of upto 6 participants (singer) d) Each College/UTD can send only one team. e) The duration of the singing will be from 5-7 minutes. f) Film song and recorded songs will not be allowed. g) Only three accompanists are allowed. h) 5 minutes will be given for setting entry, exit etc. HARYANVI QUIZ a) Each team will consist of maximum three participants. b) The questions asked will be any aspect of Haryana. c) The number of rounds to be conducted will be decided by the quiz master at the venue only. d) The team will get points for every question, if answered correctly. e) 10 seconds will be given to each team for question. f) Test for eliminations will be carried out on 27th Oct 2014 at 10:00 A.M in the Senate Hall. g) The decision of the quiz master will be final and binding. 16 SAANG (THE FOLK THEATRE FORM OF HARYANA) a) Each College/UTD can send only one team. b) Minimum time 1.15 minutes & Maximum time permitted is 1.30 minutes. c) Maximum number of participants permitted including professional is 15. d) Two professional singers + Four professional instrumentalists are permitted (in total will not exceed more than six) e) The saang can be presented as an extract of Saang or an abridged version of a Saang. The presentation could also be an adaptation of any drama in the form of Saang. f) The theme, Dialogues and presentation of the Saang could not be vulgar or objectionable. g) The group can consists of all boys or all girls or combined. h) Raagini on film tunes will not be permitted. OLD ANTIC HARYANVI COLLECTION EXHIBITION a) A college/ UTD can send only one individual participant. b) The item should be related to culture in good condition. haryanvi c) The item should be antique and/or not less than 50 years old. d) Plastic item will not be considered. 17 SHORT FILM (IN HARYANVI OR ON HARYANA) a) A college/ UTD can send only one team. b) Each team will consist of maximum 15 minutes.. c) The Short film can be in Haryanvi or any aspect of Haryana. d) It can be in the film format consisting of story and actor and can also be in the form of a documentary. e) Contents of the short film should not be vulgar or hurting the sentiments of any castes or religion. f) The Principal/Head of the Department/Director has to certify that the short film has been made by his/her students and verify the various participants. The documentary i.e. director/ photography/editing/lighting/acting etc. g) Maximum number of certificates will be issued in this regard are 10. TIE OF HARYANVI PAGRI a) A college/ UTD can send only one student male /Female. b) Each team will consist of one participant only. c) Minimum duration of Tie of Haryanvi Pagri will be 2-4 mints. d) The Pagri must be tied in Haryanvi style only. e) Get up and presentation will be taken into account for judgement 18 Important information 1) In this festival all Haryanvi Languages and dialects such as Ahirwati, Mewati, Jattu, bangaro, Bagri, Korvi, Brij etc will be included in Haryanvi language. 2) The lodging arrangements for the out-station participants/Incharges will be made by the University. 3) The prize winning teams i.e. first & second short listed by the DYCA for performance will th have to give their performance on 30 Oct at the time of Prize Distribution Function. 4) The last date for the receipt of entries complete in all respects is 25thOctober 2014. 5) You are requested kindly to circulate this programme among the students of your institution and give wide publicity and send the entry(s) of really talented students to participate and compete. The participants be directed to bring his/her IDENTITY CARD. 6) You are requested to send the name of the Event in which your College will participate. The th last date of Entry is 25 October 2014. 7) The teams will compete in the order decided by the organizers. 8) It will be the responsibility of the Contingent Incharge to ensure that the team(s) report for the various events as per the time and order announced by the organizers to save the valuable time on each day of the function. If a team/individual participant does not turn up according to the scheduled programme, the next team/individual participant will be invited for performance. The team/individual participant not adhering to the scheduled programme strictly, cannot claim the participation as a right.
