World Mission Sunday: Today the Holy Father invites
all Catholics to contribute to a special collection for
Missio, his official charity for overseas mission. Your
prayers and donations today will support the work of
missionaries and young churches as they share faith, build
churches and provide healthcare and education, often in
difficult and dangerous circumstances. The World
Mission Sunday collection will go in its entirety to
support mission projects worldwide that bring God’s love
and message of dignity for all. Please give what you can;
every gift makes a real difference to people living in
poverty who are yearning to hear the Good News of
God’s love for them.
Fr Paul: As many of you will already know, we were
saddened to hear this week that Fr Paul had died. Fr
Antony has contacted the diocese and suggested that as
this was Fr Paul’s last parish, it would be fitting that his
funeral takes place here. The diocese has accepted this
suggestion. He gave the diocese the contact details of
Lawrence funeral directors. When the date, time etc., have
been arranged, we will send an email and place notices on
the church door. However, it will probably take a week or
two before the funeral is arranged. May he rest in peace.
2015 Calendar: Next year our church will be
celebrating its 60th year. As part of the activities to
celebrate this we are putting together a 2015 calendar. If
you have any photos taken over the last 60 years at the
church and you would like them to be considered for
inclusion in the calendar please submit them to Rosemary
in the parish office. You can submit them either
electronically or hard copies. Please ensure any hard
copies have your details so that we can return them to
you. All proceeds from the calendar will be for the
building fund. Any queries please contact Anastasia
Hola!! Please join us for the first Mass to be delivered in
the Spanish Language which will be held on Saturday 25
October at 5.30pm. This will be a good opportunity to
bring together all the Spanish Speaking Community of
Southampton and pray to the Lord. (NB there will be no
morning mass on Saturday)
 Remember! Clocks go back on Saturday night.
One World Week 19-26 October
This year's theme for One World Week, LIVING
DIFFERENTLY, recognises that we all need to make
changes now to secure a fairer, more satisfying life for
everyone whilst protecting the planet's resources for
future generations.
Three simple steps can help to break the chains of the
current food supply systems, consumer habits and
money markets that damage the environment and
communities worldwide. Together we can make the
change by:
 Sourcing food differently
 Reducing wastefulness
 Using money ethically to support the changes we
want to see.
The World Development Movement invites us to join in
the fight for economic justice and an end to global
poverty.

King & St. Colman’s parish hall, Bitterne. Please come

Confession, workshops and discussion groups, and time
for participants to meet and socialise with other young
Catholics. Last year, over 100 young people from around

How is CAFOD responding to Ebola?
“Our Church partners are urgently scaling up their
response to the crisis, and aim to reach two million
people over the coming weeks. Their work includes:
Raising awareness: Many communities do not have
access to accurate information on Ebola, or hygiene
facilities to protect themselves. Our partners are
working with priests and imams to spread the word
about hand-washing and safe sanitation, and to
distribute hygiene kits.
Providing safe burials: Ebola can spread through
contact with the bodies of people who have died from
the disease, so our partners are training priests and
communities to carry out safe burials.
Supplying food: As the spread of Ebola widens, the
day to day task of buying or stocking food is becoming
more challenging. Farmers have been unable to work
together to harvest their crops, prices have risen, and
food is becoming scarce in districts that have been
quarantined. We plan to make sure vulnerable families
in Sierra Leone and Liberia have enough food.
We would be very grateful for prayers for our partners
and all the communities affected. If you would like to
find out more about the work of our partners and how
to support it, please visit cafod.org.uk/ebola”
