SYMPOSIUM HIGHLIGHTS
Fire Protection Systems for Fire Investigators
Art Black, Principal/Founder
Carmel Fire Protection Association
The 2014 editions of NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921 both have
been changed to include knowledge of fire protection
systems. This one day class will explore the knowledge
base needed to meet the requirements of NFPA 1033
and NFPA 921, 2014 editions, for fire protection systems,
including fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and special hazard
systems.
Art Black, is a 35-year veteran of the fire service, and is
the Principal of Carmel Fire Protection Associates, a fire
protection engineering consulting company in Carmel,
California. He is an acknowledged expert in fire codes
and the application of installation documents such as
NFPA 13, 13R and 13D (fire sprinklers), NFPA 72 (fire
alarm systems), and NFPA 17 and 17A (hood and duct
suppression systems), in addition to other fire protection
system standards. He is a principal member of the
NFPA technical committees for fire alarm and hood and
duct suppression systems.
At the conclusion of the class, the participant will be able
to identify the fire protection systems installed in a building under investigation, and how the fire protection
systems both influenced the fire and were influenced by
the fire. The class will follow the appropriate sections of
the 2014 editions of NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921.
In addition to Fire Investigator recertification hours,
this presentation is also approved for Fire Inspector
recertification hours through the Division of Fire
Safety.
