Author Reading with David Mossman: Going Over
Wednesday, October 22nd at 12 noon
Join us as author David Mossman reads from his new book
Going Over, the biography of Titus Mossman, a veteran of WWI
who served with the 85th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Nova
Scotia Highlanders) on the Western Front.

On Display…
October’s art display will feature “My Eyes Have Seen,” paintings by Judy Collins.
The People’s Place library will also be hosting Alan Syliboy’s multimedia exhibit “Thundermaker,”which
is touring public libraries throughout Nova Scotia. Join us at 2:00 pm on October 7th for the launch, or
come see it at the library any time before October 24 th. More information about this exhibit and the
artist can be found at www.thundermaker.ca. Library visitors will already be familiar with Syliboy’s
work as he is also the creator of the mural The Dream Canoe, which can be found in the magazine
section of the People’s Place.

Games Week, October 12 - 19
Games @ the Library Week is organized by The Atlantic Provinces
Library Association (APLA). Drop by your local branch to play some
games with your friends, such as Minecraft. Anyone caught playing a
game in the library can have their name entered in a draw to win a
Nintendo 3DS XL, courtesy of APLA. Board games are available for
library patrons to use any time, just stop by the nearest branch and
check our online calendar for special gaming events this week.
October is Mi’kmaq History Month
October 1st is Treaty Day and officially marks the start of Mi’kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia.
Since 1993, October has been designated as the month to celebrate and increase awareness of
the Mi’kmaw culture, history, and heritage. Why not check out Alan Syliboy’s Thundermaker
exhibit, or explore some of the resources available to borrow from the library that celebrate
Mi’kmaw culture?
