Congratulations

On behalf of the Rural City of Wangaratta I would like to
congratulate Margaret Bennett, Chief Executive Officer

Public Notices
Fire Prevention

Positions Vacant
Horticulture Coordinator
With the onset of warmer weather, we all need to think
about the coming fire season and the associated risks for
ourselves, our families and the community as a whole.
To reduce these risks, everyone needs to play their
part in the form of cleaning up around their properties,
removing any rubbish and maintaining grass to a
recommended height.
Over the coming weeks, Councils Fire Prevention Officer
will be conducting inspections throughout the Rural City
of Wangaratta. Any property 0.2 Hectares and less, must
maintain grass at a height of no more than 100mm, (or
4 inches,) noting this must be sustained throughout the
Fire Danger Period (FDP).
Should Council become aware of a property which
requires fire risk reduction works, a fire prevention notice
will be issued requiring the property owner to undertake
prescribed works. Failing to comply with a Fire Notice
is a serious offence and can result in a non-compliance
Fire Notice Fine being issued. (This fire season the NonCompliance Notice Fine is 10 Penalty Units @ $148.00
per Unit.) In cases where fire prevention notices are not
addressed by the property owner, Council may enter the
property, (possibly through their registered contractors,)
to undertake the required works, noting any costs
incurred will be forwarded in full to the property owner.
Council has a list of registered contractors should any
property owner require assistance with maintaining their
property in accordance with the relevant prescriptions.
For further information pertaining to fire prevention,
please contact the Council’s Fire Prevention Officer by
calling (03) 5722 0888.
