Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)- is the process of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) into the Body of Christ and the Roman Catholic Church for all those who are not baptized. Sacrament of Marriage- Marriages must be arranged with the parish no later than six months in advance of your desired date. Please call the Parish Center to set an appointment. Sacrament of the Sick- celebrates the desire and truth of Jesus’ healing touch and His desire that we might have life and have it to the full. It is offered to anyone who is seriously sick, about to undergo surgery and/or suffering the effects of advanced age. It is celebrated weekly at the 9:00am Saturday Mass. Saint Paul writes passionately today about those who have shared in the ministry and preaching of his mission. In recognizing their service he also recognizes that their labor and service is not simply a personal choice or a direct result of his invitaon. They have been, he says, “chosen.” To say someone is chosen is a statement of faith not a personal boast. It means that he or she has a vocaon, therefore, “a call, ” from God. It is what we fundamentally believe about our bapsm, that through it, we have been called first and foremost to a vocaon of Chrisan service. We are also called to live that vocaon in a parcular way, as married persons, priests, deacons, religious and single people. There is something very freeing about acknowledging that we have been called to a parcular way of life. If God has called me, God sees abilies and gis in me that will help me to fulfill this call. If God has called me, the responsibility is God’s to empower me to do what would otherwise have been impossible. The living church is not founded on volunteers but first and foremost on Christ who calls individuals to share in the fulfillment of the divine mission. God is not calling any one of us to anything more than what he has given us the ability to be. The church lives, serves and saves because of we the faithful who answer that call. What is God calling you to? CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEES - Like St. Paul, I am very grateful to those who have served the parish by assisng me through their advice and guidance in their service on our Parish Council and Parish Finance Commiee. Our current finance commiee is made up of the following members: Joe Leo, Tom Pascucci, Jim Boo, Sue Cassese, Tim Rodgers, Tom Weiss, Jim Logan and Dave Timmerman Our Pastoral Council is currently comprised of the following parishioners: Jim Bono, Kathy Hartman, Tony Notaristefano, Cathy Reilly, Terry Quinn, Ray Cassidy and Maureen Balas October 19, 2014 3 All of these people have served at least four years and some for many more years than that. SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION - This Thursday, the young men and women who have completed their catechecal formaon program for the Sacrament of Confirmaon will receive the sacrament from our diocesan bishop, Bishop William Murphy. We are happy to welcome Bishop Murphy to our parish this week and are grateful to witness the conferring of the gi of the Holy Spirit upon our candidates. These young men and women are the second class to complete our modified program which includes two years of catechesis and proximate formaon in the Fall of their freshman year of high school. Their class work was completed last spring and during this last month the candidates have parcipated in a day retreat, a Mass for them and their sponsors and a group presentaon on sexuality. I am pleased at their level of parcipaon and the maturity in which they approached these days. Please join me in praying for them this week.
