The world has found in you a great champion in
time of peril, as you emerged the victor in routing
the barbarians. For as you brought to naught the
boasts of Lyaios, imparting courage to Nestor in
the stadium, in like manner, holy one, great Martyr
Dimitrios, invoke Christ God for us, that He may
grant us His great mercy.

often associated with “tithe,” “generosity,”
and “money.” While these associations are
not wrong, stewardship means much more
than simply giving time, talent, and treasure.
Rarely in the Bible does God interrupt
someone's life and ask him or her to do
something easy.
God didn't ask Moses to take on a few more
sheep, but to stand up to Pharaoh. God didn't
ask Sarah to go to an old-folks home, but to
start painting the nursery. God is constantly
giving people challenging assignments—to
spend a night in a lion's den, take a walk in a
fiery furnace, marry a pregnant girl who
claims she's still a virgin.
You can guess that people's initial response is
fear. I can't do that. I can't go there. I can't
say those things. I suspect that a lot of people
in Biblical times simply said ''no'' to God.
They thought, ''God wouldn't ask me to do
something that makes me uncomfortable,
right?''
Think again. God is in the adventure
business. An author once wrote, ''If there's a
challenge in front of you, a course of action
that could cause you to grow, and that would
be helpful to the people around you, but you
find yourself scared about it, there's a real
good chance that God is in that challenge.”
As Christians we use a popular term that is
challenging to many...“stewardship.” When
we hear that word we expect that our leaders
want us to give something. It is a word that is
Remember the parable of the talents in
chapter 25 of Matthew’s gospel? Here talents
refer to money. But the word talent is broader
than money. It refers to a broad range of
things. If God has given you money—and he
has given some to all of us—then we must
receive it as a trust from him. If he’s given us
talents—some kind of special ability—then
we must use that for him. If given a spiritual
gift—and every Christian has at least one—
then we must use that for his kingdom. Each
day the Lord gives us opportunities to
serve—at work, at play, with our family, in
the community.
The thing to really remember is that the
talents given to us are a trust. When you put
money into a trust account at the bank, they
keep it for you but you expect to see interest
returned to you on that money. God gives us
talents in various forms so that we can be
fruitful and multiply them for the work he has
given us to do on his behalf.
Our response to God’s grace ought to change
our lives. Christ didn’t die only to save our
souls. He was victorious over death so that
we might know how to truly live and also
find great joy and purpose in that life. Let’s
live and work every day in the certainty that
Jesus one day will say to us, "Well done,
good and faithful servant!"
What is God challenging you to do?

Take or Receive?
As Orthodox Christians we know that
the Sacrament of Holy Communion plays
an extremely important role in our spiritual
lives. If we take a moment to think about
our participation in this sacrament, we
should realize that we do not “take”
communion, but instead, we “receive” it. At
first it may seem that there really isn’t any
difference
between
“taking”
and
“receiving.” This difference can be more clearly seen, however, if we recognize that the
Eucharist is a gift. We wouldn’t speak of taking a birthday present from someone, but rather, we
would receive it from them.
Holy Communion is a gift that Christ, through sacrificing Himself, has given to us. It is
the precious body and blood of our Savior which He presents to us as an expression of His
incredible love for us. Christ gives part of Himself to us as a gift so that we can grow closer to
Him. As Orthodox Christians we work toward becoming one with God. Having the body and
blood of Jesus Christ within us helps us to achieve this goal. It allows us to move toward
salvation in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Knowing these things we can see how important it is for us to receive communion.
Further, if we are prepared to receive, we must also act appropriately when we approach the
chalice. This is not a time for day- dreaming or joking around, but a moment of respect and
prayer. During the Liturgy the priest says, “With the fear of God, faith, and love, draw near.”
Hearing these words we must keep in mind our fear of God’s great power, our faith in Jesus
Christ, and our love for one another.
When we attend the Divine Liturgy it is essential that we are aware of what is taking
place. Christ is giving us the greatest gift the world has ever known. He is sharing Himself with
us so that we can attain eternal life with Him. Holy Communion is not something that we simply
can take, but instead it is the gift of life that we are called to receive from our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.

MINISTRY RESOURCES
The Holy Trinity operating budget for the calendar year 2014 will be $822,916. Our Stewardship giving
should support all the Parish Ministries and the entire operating budget.
That would mean each family gives ONLY $34 per week
We should not depend on special affairs to meet our budget, for this is our direct responsibility. Stewardship places the responsibility
on us, for we are the recipients of God’s gifts and play an active role in perpetuating His work of salvation. The expenses of our Parish
are vital to our Church for: •Keeping in Touch With You •Maintaining our Buildings •Those Who Serve Us •Worship and Education
•National Ministries Commitment.
The quality of our service as a Parish, Metropolis, and Archdiocese depends directly on the level of your generous giving.

Fundraiser and we welcome every parishioner to

our Holy Trinity!

up for a booth. We need your help for 1 hour, 2
hours, 3 hours or more.
ADVERTISING
Show your support for Holy Trinity’s largest
fundraiser by advertising on our placemat. ONLY
7 spaces available for a business card size ad. Or
advertise with a banner which will be hung in our
pavilion for an extra $200.
SPONSORSHIP
This year we added the ability to show your
support for Greek Fest with Sponsorships. You
will be recognized in the brochure that is handed
out at the Admissions booth and also on our
website
at
www.OrlandoGreekFest.com.
Sponsorships begin as low as BRONZE ~ $99 and
under, SILVER ~ $100 - $399, GOLD ~ $400 - $750

generously of your treasures.

sell 10 tickets to support our Greek Fest raffle.
Please
make
your

payable
to:
HTGOC/Greek Fest. In the memo please write
“raffle”. We will be selling the raffle tickets each
Sunday in October at the table in the foyer during
coffee hour. Tickets are a suggested donation of
$5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20. Help the church
by making every effort to buy or sell these to your

your support for the church. We will have two
designs for out t-shirts this year.
PARKING PASS
Please come by the Greek Fest table and purchase
your $10 parking pass for three days of parking
on the church grounds. Without this pass, you
will be asked to pay $5 per day for parking on the

to let you in on the preferred parking for FREE.
This is taking revenue away from the church. For
your convenience we offer FREE Parking down
the road, with a FREE shuttle to and from the
parking lots. For our disabled parishioners, your
Handicap sticker is a Parking Pass during the
festival.
FOOD TICKETS
We will be selling food tickets again this year.

friends and family. Tickets will be sold for $4 each
ticket and valued at $5. Purchase early. These

of fellowship. Lunch will be provided.

supplies, putting up fencing, hanging banners,
cooking, food prep and there will be no heavy
lifting. Come and help during the day.
APPRECIATION DINNER

the Appreciation Dinner. This is our way of
giving back to Holy Trinity for always supporting
this event. This dinner will be held on Nov. 6th,
2014 at 6 p.m. Please come and join in the
fellowship and if you haven’t had the chance to
help during these last few months, we would
greatly appreciate your help on this day!! Looking
forward to seeing everyone at the dinner and
