Mental Health & Wellbeing Campaign September - October 2014

The City of Canterbury proudly presents
Mental Health & Wellbeing Campaign
September - October 2014
A message
from our
Mayor
Welcome to our third annual Mental
Health and Wellbeing Campaign, now
called Canterbury Cares. The World Health
Organisation defines mental health and
wellbeing as when a person can cope
with the challenges life brings and can
contribute to their family and community.
It’s important to look after our wellbeing and
there are many simple things we can do from
getting good rest, having a hobby, eating
well, finding an enjoyable form of exercise,
having friends and many others.
We know that sometimes those
life challenges can be prolonged or
overwhelming and that it can be difficult
to take the first step. Over September and
October there will be a variety of events held
across the City, from information sessions
about stress, mental health services and
caring for people with a mental illness, to
exercise classes and bushcare activities.
We trust you will find something that will
interest you in this Campaign and encourage
you to come to at least one event. By joining
in you will build your resilience, learn new
skills and know where to find support when
you or a loved one needs it.
