POLICY ON PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF DISABILITY
The Town of Rocky Hill will not discriminate
against any individual on the basis of disability,
including a child with diabetes, with regard
to full and equal enjoyment of its programs,
services and activities, including but not
limited to participation in its summer camp
programs through the Parks & Recreation
department. The Town of Rocky Hill will make
reasonable modifications in policies, practices,
or procedures, when the modifications are
necessary to avoid discrimination on the
basis of disability, unless the Town can
demonstrate that making the modifications
would fundamentally alter the nature of its
programs, services, or activities. Modifications
shall include, but are not limited to, supervising,
monitoring and assisting children with diabetes
while using blood glucose monitoring tests,
insulin pumps, syringes, and other diabetesrelated medical equipment; and permitting such
children to eat and drink as required to address
their diabetic management, while participating
in any program, service or activity sponsored by
the Town of Rocky Hill.

Basketball COACHES CORNER
Travel Basketball League
New Coaches
Coaching is more than knowing the game. The ability to teach age appropriate athletic skills is equally
as important as being aware of the needs of the children participating in sports. Volunteer coaches are
needed for the Midget Basketball Clinic for grade 2 and the Youth Basketball League for grades 3–8.
Please fill out the following forms: general authorization/release form and coaching interest form. Forms
are available on our web site www.rhparkrec.org under Sports/Youth Basketball. Forms are due by
October 1 to the Recreation Department.
Returning Coaches
A letter will be sent out in September to all 2013–14 coaches with league information. Be sure to send
in the coaching return form.
Draft for grades 3–8: All coaches need to attend the draft for their age group. The team draft will be
held on Saturday, November 1 and all coaches will pick their own team. If you are unable to attend the
draft a team will be picked for you. See draft schedule for times.
Mandatory Coaches Training: All coaches are required to attend one Positive Coaching Alliance
training session once every 3 years. The PCA clinic will be held on Tuesday, September 2 from
6:00–8:00pm OR Wednesday, November 12 from 7:00–9:00pm at the Community Center.
www.positivecoach.org.
Mandatory Coaches Meeting: A league meeting for those coaching grades 3–8 will be held on
Wednesday, November 5 at 6:00pm in the Community Center. Coaches will receive team rosters,
equipment, rules and regulations.
For those wanting a more intense program
that requires travel to area towns, try out
for Travel Basketball. Away games can be a
20–60 minute drive. Consistent attendance
at practices is expected and equal playing
time is not mandated. Team selection will
be based on tryouts the week of Sept. 29.
Each team will be limited to 10–12 players.
Teams available: 5th–8th boys (4 teams)
and 5th-8th girls (4 teams). Players not
selected for the travel team will be refunded
the registration fee and can play in the
recreation league. Players cannot play in the
travel league and the recreational league at
the same time.
Fee: $160
Register by: Sept. 29
As a thank you for coaching and the commitment to the players, all coaches who have completed the
PCA training will be issued a credit on their account at the end of the basketball season. The amount
will be what was paid for one child to play basketball.
The Rocky Hill Parks & Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Philosophy
The Youth Sports Programs offered by the Rocky Hill Parks and
Recreation Department are designed to provide a positive sports
experience. The primary purpose is to offer each participant the
opportunity to pursue, through recreational sports, the physical and
emotional benefits of the program. We strive to maintain our sport
programs so that all players will have the opportunity to gain new
skills, make new friends and have fun.
The emphasis is on good sportsmanship, proper conduct, and
following the rules and polices of the Parks and Recreation
Department. Although competition is a natural part of sport
activities, winning is not the primary goal. We not only want our
participants, but also the coaches and fans to play fairly and respect
others. Cheer for ones triumphs and not for their shortcomings. Win
with grace and lose with dignity. Encourage others to always do
their best and try their hardest. The Code of Conduct applies to all
players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators.
Code of Conduct for Players
qPlay by the rules.
wValue safety and fair play above personal gain.
eAccept the authority and respect the decision of all game
officials.
Never
use abusive or foul language.
r
tBe a good sport. Applaud all good play.
yTreat all participants as you would like to be treated.
uAlways cooperate with your coach and team mates.
iAlways participate for your own enjoyment and benefit.
Code of Conduct for Parents/Spectators
The role of parents and spectators is critical to the experience
the player has in the youth sports program. Please follow these
guidelines:
qSupport your child and the team in a positive manner. Cheer for
your child and team, not against the opposing team.
wShow respect for all players, coaches, game officials and other
spectators. Set a positive example with your behavior.
Respect
the decision of the officials and encourage others to do so.
e
rRecognize that the children are participating in the sport for fun
and their own enjoyment.
tAbide by all regulations set forth by the schools and Recreation
Department for facility usage.
Code of Conduct for Coaches
qSet a positive example for the players and spectators to follow.
wPlay by the rules. Respect the decision of the officials and
encourage others to do so.
ePromote good sportsmanship and coach in a positive manner.
rTreat opposing coaches, participants and spectators with
respect.
Congratulate
all players on the performance.
t
yProvide a safe and healthy environment.
The Rocky Hill Parks & Recreation Department reserves the
right to remove anyone from the program or facility for failure
to follow the Code of Conduct.

come home singing songs in Portuguese
and learn to play the tambourine. He or
she will play games that enhance selfesteem, co-ordination, following directions,
co-operation and more. As they have
fun “playing” they are learning a strong
foundation in Capoeira. At the end of every
