Erdrich Join us in celebrating Native Artists and the work of Tiwahe Foundation November 13, 2014 Neighborhood House – Wellstone Center Performance Hall 179 Robie Street East St. Paul, MN 55107 Rosy Simas (Seneca) is a contemporary dance choreographer and teacher. Her work investigates how culture, history, homeland, and identity are stored in the body and can be expressed in movement. The Tiwahe Foundation grant supported traveling back and forth between Minneapolis and her home reservation in Cattaraugus, NY. S imas unraveled traumatic and powerful stories of her grandmother’s life, which inspired her work, We Wait In The Darkness. This dance is currently on tour in North America and has been nominated for two 2014 Minnesota Sage Awards for Dance. Douglas K. Limon (Oneida) is a traditional and contemporary artist whose beadwork is a spiritual expression of ancient traditions and cultures that has survived thousands of years. His Cradleboard and Bandolier Bag projects have been recognized locally and nationally. Tiwahe Foundation helped in launching his greeting cards. He has received numerous awards and grants for his work and was recently honored with the First Peoples Fund Jennifer Easton Community Spirit Award. Heid E. Erdrich (Ojibwe) is author of four poetry collections, most recently Cell Traffic: New and Selected Poems. A recipient of numerous awards, most recently from First People’s Fund, among other honors. Heid’s newest book is Original Local: Indigenous Foods Stories and Recipes from the Upper Midwest. Heid’s performance for Tiwahe involves a community-made poem on art and food. R. Vincent Moniz, Jr. (Mandan Hidatsa Arikara) has been a part of the Twin Cities artistic c ommunity for over two decades as an actor. The work of this Southside firestarter has been published in the Yellow Medicine Review and online as part of Native Literatures: Generations. Moniz was selected as a 2012 Jerome Fellow, a 2013 Beyond the Pure Fellow and most recently Vincent was selected as a 2014 Intermedia Arts Verve Fellow. At the E. Donald Two-Rivers Memorial Poetry Slam,Vincent was crowned and is now the current and reigning Indigenous Poetry Slam Champion. Robyne Robinson is not only one of the first African-Americans to anchor a prime-time newscast, but is an icon of Twin Cities broadcasting. Her 20 years on air have been filled with numerous honors, including the Upper Midwest Emmy for Best Anchor and the Minneapolis NAACP Industry award for Outstanding Contributions to Broadcasting. Robyne is currently the Arts and Culture Director of the Airport Foundation.
