PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members
NOVEMBER HIGHLIGHTS
Kristan Conlon
As some of you may be aware, the Polo Club will celebrate a significant milestone in 2015, with
the Club proudly becoming 25 years old. An overall event plan is currently being developed by
Management and Committee to ensure 2015 is a year of celebration for members.
A working group for this important year will be formed once plans are firmed up and any
member who would like to be part of an organizing group are encouraged to contact our
Membership Manager - Andrea Montague. Whilst on the topic of events, the annual Brisbane
Open House (BOH) will take place around the city on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of
October. Our Club will open its doors again to visitors on Sunday the 12th from 10am to 2pm.
Thank you in advance to the volunteer members who together with staff will take tours of
Naldham House.
The Business Breakfast Series continued its great success, with Don Meij of Dominos Pizza
entertaining a full house audience at the Club in September. Make sure you book early for the
final breakfast of 2014, which will see Glenn Richards of Greencross Vets speaking on December
3rd.
Of course Tuesday the 4th November is a key date with Melbourne Cup. Reserve your seats now
for the Club event as tickets are always in high demand, with lots of fun and high quality food
and beverage guaranteed.
Finally but very importantly may I welcome three new members to our invited “Young Member
Ambassador” group. Katie Richards, Dean Weiss and John Allen join Nathan Schokker, Stephen
Mackie, Leighton Crisp and Danika Harrison. The Ambassadors meet with Management on
a monthly basis to discuss events and business development initiatives for the Club and its
members.
The General Manager and Membership Manager are also currently meeting with small groups of
members in a “focus group style” to identify needs and ways in which the Club can continue to
attract new members in addition to engaging current members. If you would like to contribute to
these focus groups please contact Paul Grainger, GM directly.

MEMBER NEWS
NEW MEMBERS - A WARM WELCOME TO YOU
Michael Kely - Brisbane Legal Group
Katelan Sweeney - Queensland Health
Tara Rimmer - The Van That Can
Jesse Thompson - Qld Council of Unions
Richard Chang - Officelinks Australia
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Katie Richards
Introducing: Katie Richards - Director - Virtual Legal.
About Company: Virtual Legal is an online law firm which manages property and
commercial transactions for fixed fees. We solve the three biggest problems the public deal
with when faced with a leasing, residential and commercial conveyancing, estate planning,
franchising, business sale or purchase – firstly we only charge competitive fixed fee
packages, so if issues arise (because life tends to happen) we don’t turn the clock back on.
Secondly, we educate our clients about the process and provide direct access
to lawyers, rather than paralegals, which minimizes stress for our clients. Thirdly, by using the latest technology, our clients can
access our assistance and manage the transaction from the comfort of their home or office, or holiday house in France!
Hobbies: I love to cook. I’m a serial entrepreneur and a fitness nut too. I train with other club members Dean Weiss and Nicola
Williams of Cutting Edge Performance for INBA but do marathon training solo.
Favourite Drink: Hendricks Gin with Indian tonic, cucumber and cracked pepper, and Endura.
Favourite holiday destination: Ooh tough one. My next holiday is in New York for the marathon then off to Vegas and LA.
Favourite destination so far is Florence (for the markets then cycling around the Tuscan wineries).
Secret skill: I found out recently that I am capable of sending emails in my sleep while sleep walking.
Why do I enjoy the club? The benefits of the club for me are multi-faceted. It serves as an office away from Virtual Legal’s office so
that I can get work done in between client meetings in the city. It also provides for a beautiful environment to take clients for lunch
and the food is always five star. Also, the events gather a fun crowd and there is always something to do. It is nice to have access to
a venue with exclusive access, as this seems to be impressive to new clients.
A Polo Club tip for new members? Get to know one or two of the more social members and tag along to events. Everyone makes
an effort to include new members once we have met them so don’t be shy. Watch your emails like a hawk because the free movie
ticket offers for premiers disappear like hotcakes if you’re slow on the uptake.
Other? John Allen (our ANZ finance broker) has started running a networking lunch once a month which has been very valuable
to me from a business perspective and a lot of fun. A great way to meet everyone!
2 4 1 BREAKFAST AT THE CLUB
Our special offer continues until 30th November.
Bring a colleague along for breakfast and
