KAHIKATEA SENIOR CAMP. Our seniors embark on their bi-annual EOTC camp to Forest Lakes next Tuesday. Thanks to all our parents who have volunteered to be parent helpers, giving up their time to support our staff. We are waiting on some payments to come in and hopefully we will have everybody on board by the end of this week. Have fun seniors, step outside your comfort zones, support each other and achieve your goals! SCHOOL HOLIDAYS SUPPORT. Thanks to all the parents who responded to my requests for patrols of our grounds. School suffered minor damage which was a major relief. On behalf of our school, thanks to all our parents, teachers, students and ex-students who came up in the holidays; did work in the garden, around the grounds and in our resource rooms. A special mention to Kiri Bishop and Whitireia Polytechnic for providing students to help out too…and not to mention the CAKES! Domo Arigato! SUMMER SUNHATS. From next week all students will be required to wear a brimmed sunhat in the playground. This is in line with our Sunsmart policy. Students without a proper hat will spend their break times under our shades or in class. The school has provided one for every student and is currently distributing these to all new enrolments since the end of term one. If your child has misplaced theirs, we sell them at the office for $9. You are more than welcome to purchase one from somewhere else. Remember that it must be a brimmed sun hat/bucket hat. Baseball caps and snapbacks are banned from school during these summer terms, as in the past we have had to deal with issues of theft and misplacements. If your child owns one it is best that they keep them at home for these reasons. THE ROBBIE FRUEAN CUP. Pohutukawa syndicate is currently in the middle of building their rugby team for this prestigious event. With hard fought victories over Cannons Creek School at the end of last term, our team will be looking to go one better than last year, losing a close final to Corinna School. The tournament will be held at Porirua Park during the day on Wednesday the 29th October. Come down to cheer on the ‘black n yellows!’ Thanks to dads Sini Gray and Moa Fanueli for coaching this team. THE PAUL RAUHIHI CUP. Our senior syndicate Kahikatea is taking part in another prestigious sports competition. This one however is held over a few weeks. The Paul Rauhihi cup is a 6 week rugby league tournament for Y7/8 students. Our team, ‘The Rangikura Roosters’ will have their first up game because of camp on; Tuesday 28th October versus the ‘Bishop Viard Broncos’ at 4pm, Bishop Viard College. Thanks to Damon Rongotaua Snr for lending a hand with his coaching expertise. T.M. MOTHERS/DAUGHTERS PANCAKE BREAKFAST. Every term as part of our ‘Tamaiti Mua’ home-school initiative, Rangikura holds an event to acknowledge our school whanau/fanau/family. On Wednesday 29th October, we are holding a Mothers/Daughters pancake breakfast! As we clarify every year, this event is traditionally called the Mothers/Daughters breakfast but is intended for all significant female role models in the lives of our boys and our girls. So Mums, Grandmas, Aunties, older sisters, female caregivers…we cordially invite you to a pancake breakfast on Wednesday 29th October from 7.15 - 8.30am. Looking for Super Carer! SPORTS – HOLIDAY REP GAMES It was the day of the tournament and I’m super nervous. As we begin the long trip to Otaki for the week for the under 55kgs Rep Rugby. The first game was against Hutt Valley and my blood was pumping. When the whistle blew it was all on. I had the same feeling against H.K. Wellington but the game against Rangitikei was different. We had a great start because the forwards were doing their job and the backs got clean ball. This was a good physical challenge and I encourage others to have a go, but remember you must be under 55kgs. By Seth. WELLINGTON HOCKEY REPS During the holidays two of our students (Phoenix O’Gorman and Jade Obeda) went to Wanganui to represent Wellington Under 13’s in a National Hockey Tournament. Some of the teams competing were from Wanganui, Hawkes Bay, Poverty Bay, Wairarapa and others. We made it all the way to the finals and played Wanganui. We won 1-0 and came first in the whole of New Zealand. It was a great opportunity to take part in this tournament and being able to represent Wellington. By Jade NATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT During the holidays five girls from Rangikura School went to Dunedin to represent Porirua in a National Basketball Tournament. Our team the Porirua Under 13 girls played teams from all over New Zealand like Hibiscus Coast, Waitakere, Waikato and many more. Our goal was to make the top 8 in the country. We done better than that and we placed 5th out of 20 teams. It was an amazing experience to be a part of the last Under 13 New Zealand Nationals for Basketball. SUMMER HOCKEY LEAGUE Tawa Hockey club in association with Wellington Hockey are calling for Years 5-8 players (and any keen adults) to register for this fun social league Games played on Tuesday 5-7pm at Elsdon turf. 8 games to play from Tue 28 Oct to Tue 16 Dec. 6-aside teams using half the turf and playing to Hockey5 rules - 30 min games.
