Amelia Strano was kind enough to come in and talk to both Legal Studies classes about her life at the College, university and her current job. She talked about the VCE subjects she did and how she didn’t know what she wanted to do when she finished high school, which is a struggle many students face. Amelia knew that commerce was her passion and so that’s what she continued in university. With her impressive ATAR score of 96.85, she studied commerce at the University of Melbourne, and then transferred to La Trobe to study Law. She said that the University of Melbourne was different to La Trobe because they “threw you into the deep end”. She also said that students at La Trobe were much more social and friendly. When she was in her final years of university she knew that she had to find a job. Her advice was to do as much work experience as possible in the area that you want to work. It is not enough to work at Coles or Kmart, but working in areas that will help assist in finding employment. She decided to volunteer at a law firm which helped her gain knowledge, practice and skill. Amelia completed a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting and Economics in 2010 and spent three years working in an accounting role for a large construction and property development company. She was very lucky to find a position as a lawyer at Madgwicks Lawyers. She works in Commercial Law and has experience in Property, Commercial Litigation and insolvency matters. . 15 October 2014 Insert Canteen Assistance in 2015 On behalf of Ave Maria College, I would like to thank all the parents who volunteered their time in the Canteen this year.
