Ex –student returns to Ave Maria College Amelia Strano’s Legal Studies Visit
As the Legal Studies course
work was nearly completed
and our time to start
examination revision was
beginning, we had a great
opportunity to meet a former
student of the College who
has become a Commercial
Lawyer. Amelia Strano was
kind enough to come in and
talk to both Legal Studies
classes about her life at the
College, university and her
current job. She talked about the VCE subjects she did and
how she didn’t know what she wanted to do when she
finished high school, which is a struggle many students face.
Amelia knew that commerce was her passion and so that’s
what she continued in university. With her impressive ATAR
score of 96.85, she studied commerce at the University of
Melbourne, and then transferred to La Trobe to study Law.
She said that the University of Melbourne was different to La
Trobe because they “threw you into the deep end”. She also
said that students at La Trobe were much more social and
friendly.
When she was in her final years of university she knew that
she had to find a job. Her advice was to do as much work
experience as possible in the area that you want to work. It is
not enough to work at Coles or Kmart, but working in areas
that will help assist in finding employment. She decided to
volunteer at a law firm which helped her gain knowledge,
practice and skill.
Amelia completed a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in
Accounting and Economics in 2010 and spent three years
working in an accounting role for a large construction and
property development company. She was very lucky to find a
position as a lawyer at Madgwicks Lawyers. She works in
Commercial Law and has experience in Property,
Commercial Litigation and insolvency matters.

School Fees 2015
Although her work takes up most of her time, Amelia is
married, and has learned to balance out her personal life
with her work life. She loves what she does and her
experience is very relatable. The Legal Studies students are
very grateful to have her share her story with us, and give us
valuable advice that will help us not only in our studies but in
the future.
Term 4 fees were due and payable by Friday, 10 October. If
you have not made your payment please do so as soon as
possible. Families on Direct Debit and Credit Card
Authorisations are not required to take any further action at
this time. Please note that these schedules will continue in
2015 and adjustment to payment amounts will need to be
made then.
