Greetings and best wishes to all our devotees for a happy
festive season!
Projects completed since the last Newsletter of October
2013 and projects to be initiated this year, including a
Hindu Heritage and Cultural Center, are given below.
Temple activities such as Sunday Program, Temple Hours
Religious Services provided, etc., are given in our website:

Projects and renovations:
The renovations/new additions and the cost are listed
below:

Residence for seniors:
Since there was no concrete response from the community,
this project is on hold indefinitely.
Hindu Heritage-Cultural center:
Due to various competing reasons which required immediate
attention and resources, there was not much activity on
this project. But we sincerely hope that this activity will be
taken during the next 6 months.
Finances
The Community has been generous in supporting the temple

their contributions in the past and we hope this
will continue. The number of trustees has gradually

Donations Accumulated: Donations from devotees
(small or large) are added and accumulated and once the
total sum exceeds $1,000, the donor becomes a trustee.
There are many devotees who can become trustees by
making additional small donations. Donors can call the
treasurer to find out their total donation and can upgrade
their status from one level to the next.
Maintenance and operation:
The cost for the maintenance of the Temple has steadily
gone up over the years. Presently it is about $17,000 per
month.

1. Use of Temple facilities: All devotees and
organizers of community functions in the Temple are
requested to make the suggested donations for the use
of the Temple facilities, as set forth in the list
(contact the Manager, 613-822 1531). The Temple
Priest(s) has to be involved in any event conducted in
the Temple.
The time allotted for the use of the facility for any
function is 3 hours and for weddings 4 hours.
2. Cleanliness. Users of the facilities are requested
to leave the place clean after it has been used.
3. Name and address. Devotees are requested to
write their name and complete address on the
donations envelopes in such a manner that we can read
it and add to your previous donations.
4. Future Newsletter and announcements.

e-mail address by e-mailing to

manager or mailing it.
5. Food to be served at the temple.
- Coffee, tea, juices, carbonated soft drinks or alcoholic
beverages ARE NOT TO BE SERVED in the Temple.
- Food items served in the Temple should not contain
onion or garlic
- Nuts are not permitted due to the risk of allergic
reactions for some devotees.
- From the health point of view it is recommended
to keep food as simple as possible, with minimum
amount of salt, sugar and fat.
6. All Private Poojas and Prasad distribution MUST BE
COMPLETED BY 7:30 PM, as the temple closes at 8:30
pm.

Hosts for Sunday Pooja:
Individuals or groups of families who would like to host a
Sunday Pooja may contact the Manager (613 822 1531).
Devotees can pick available Sundays for hosting, from the
list posted at the bulletin boards. The generosity of the
individuals and families in sponsoring the poojas and prasad
on Sundays and Fridays is also appreciated.

Various activities of the temple:
- Sunday Brahma Vidya:
Reading the text from Bhagawat Gita/Upanishad
and their interpretations:
12.15-12.45 pm
- Sunday Classes for Children: 12:00 -12.45 pm
Interested devotees who would like to reactivate the
Sunday Classes for Children, are requested to give their
names and contact information (telephone numbers, email
ID’s) to the Manager of the Temple.
- School Visits and Other Groups:
Students from Schools and Universities and church groups
visit the Temple regularly. In 2013, 30 groups visited the
Temple with a total number of about 1500. Basics of
Hinduism and the history of our Temple are explained by a
member of the Board or Management. This activity has
been appreciated by the visitors. This has also imparted
much better understanding of Hinduism in people of other
faiths.
- Health Seminars:
In February 2012, the Temple started monthly seminars on
various health issues, focusing mainly on the concept of
“healthy living” and prevention of disease. So for we have
held 30 seminars which are well-attended and appreciated.
- Yoga classes: The Temple has been conducting Yoga
classes every Sunday from, 10 to 11 am for a number of
- Capital Region Interfaith Council (CRIC): For
better understanding and hormony among various
faiths
- World Conference on Religion for Peace
(WCRP)
- Doors Open Ottawa
- Spiritual Care Advisory Committee of The
Ottawa Hospitals (TOH)
- Community Care Advisory Committee of

- Advisory committee of RCMP for security
matters.
- Shepherds of Good Hope: Thanks to our
Volunteers who have been preparing and
serving food for the needy, once a month.
- Food supplies are sent regularly to
Shepherds of Good Hope and the Food Banks.
Need for volunteers:
The Temple seeks volunteers who can help in the various
activities of the temple. Those who can donate a few hours
every week as “Shram Daan” may contact the Manager at
613 822 1531. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Funeral needs:
Information on the requirements
(religious, procedural and legal) and the services provided
for Hindus by some funeral homes in our region are given in
our website www.hindutemple.ca The Provincial Government
has given permission to immerse the ashes after cremation,
on the crown land or waterways. Please contact the temple
or Kanwal Talwar (613-820-5622) for further details.
