OBJECTIVES:
Participants in the Instructor course will:
• Review the principles of adult learning and incorporate them into their NRP courses
• Learn how to organize and provide NRP courses
• Understand the administrative structure of NRP in Canada and the administrative role of the NRP Instructor
• Discuss the applied science of NRP with a focus on the science behind the current NRP guidelines
• Renew neonatal resuscitation knowledge & develop skills in the evaluation of individual and team performance
at Performance Skills Stations, Integrated Skills Stations (Megacode) & Team-based simulation
• Develop skills at creating & conducting effective learning objectives & scenarios and facilitating learning
through simulation and team debriefing

PRE-REQUISITES
Eligibility requirements for the NRP Instructor Course:
• One of the following: Licensed Physician (Resident or Fellow), Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, & Registered Midwife.
• Completed a NRP Provider course (all lessons) within 24 months prior to the course and completion of the on-line exam within 12 months prior to the course, must be knowledgeable of current updates, including Canadian recommendations for practice.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as an NRP Provider and a minimum of 2 years providing neonatal care.
• Candidates should be working for and have the support of an organization that provides NRP education for health care professionals providing care for newborns.

Registration as a NRP Instructor:
NRP Providers who meet the eligibility requirements, complete the NRP Instructor course & successfully “Team Teach” an
NRP Provider course supervised by an NRP Instructor Trainer (IT) or a delegate (as identified and approved by an NRP (IT))
are eligible to register with the Canadian Pediatric Society as an NRP Instructor. Following the Team Teach, the new Instructor
must remit a completed Instructor registration form and Instructor fee of $120.75 to the CPS to obtain instructor status. To
maintain Instructor status, Instructors must teach a minimum of 2 NRP courses in two years, remit Instructors fees every three
years to the CPS and regularly update their status in accordance with the Canada Pediatrics Society and Saskatchewan NRP
Steering Committee guidelines. The Instructor MUST be registered with the Canadian Pediatric Society.
Precourse Preparation:
Participants will prepare & present a practice teaching scenario of approximately 10 minutes. Further information will be included in the
confirmation letter.

The NRP Instructor Manual 2011 (included in your course fee). All NRP Instructors and Instructor Candidates must have their own personal copy.

STUDY CREDITS
NRP is approved for Mainpro-C credits and MainPro-M1 (College of Family Physicians
of Canada) and Maintenance of Certification Section 2 credits (Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). NRP course participants can claim credits for
every educational hour. Completing the NRP Instructor Course can contribute towards
the continuing competence programs established by provincial regulatory bodies for
midwives, nurses and respiratory therapists.
PAYMENT, CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
Please note that we accept payment only by credit card or institutional/company cheque payable
to the University of Saskatchewan. Registrations will not be processed until payment is received.
Cancellations must be received in writing by November 27, 2014 and will be subject to a refund
administration fee of $100.00 + GST plus the cost of the book ($75.00 + GST). Refunds will not
be considered after November 27, 2014. The Division of Continuing Medical Education, College
of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course due to
insufficient registration or circumstances beyond our control. This course may be cancelled prior
to the course date. Each registrant will be notified and a refund will follow. Continuing Medical
Education, College of Medicine is not responsible for any other costs including, but not limited to,
airline or hotel penalties.
