FOREWORD:
Earlier in 2014, I started sending out an email containing a paragraph or so to 15 of my
friends, Clarksville's own CMA Prayerborne Eagles, as a reminder of the motorcycle event
opportunities we were going to attend or support. There were always things being
brought to my attention of things: rides, charities, and events that we didn't choose to go
to or support because we didn't know about it. Next I wondered how many of these
charity rides and events didn't get supported because others didn't know about them. As I
added more and more events, and more and more people to the email, many of the “just
under 100” email address didn't receive it because it was getting marked as spam and
being rejected. Now it is reaching several hundred people thanks to the internet. My goal
is to post everything I can that occurs in the Clarksville, TN area but I still don't get
everything listed-especially if I don't find out about it until a few days before hand.
Sometimes locations and times change due to conflicts, the weather, and I also make
mistakes so before you take those vacation days, verify it yourself. There is also a lot of
things that go on close by in Kentucky but I don't know about it. Drop me an email
containing the information about your event I will try to put it on the list. Just tell me
about it and/or send a flyer to [email protected] . I try my best to update weekly, (no
promises as sometimes I get lazy). You can also find the latest version online:

OCTOBER'S RIDER TIP:
Temperature is Droping, So is your Tire Inflation
The heat of summer is fading and being replaced by cool nights. You know what they
say about Tennesee, if you want the weather to change wait ten minutes. Well we are
going to have one day that is 80 degrees and two days later the night may be near
freezing. Frosts are coming and the leaves will be changing, then falling this month.
This time of year serves as a reminder that a drop in tire inflation pressures
corresponds with the falling thermometer readings. You can lose 2-3 pounds of air
pressure for every 10 degrees of temperature change. We know we should check
them each time we ride but do we really pull out the gauge and get a reading or do we
kick them to see if they have air? Please don't hit those slick leaves with low tires.
Also, tire gauges...if you use a fifty cent gauge, replace it every six months. Even the
fancy ones don't last forever. Did you know that once a tire gauge has been dropped,
it should be replaced? Keeping a gauge in a hot environment also means the seal
inside it will dry rot quicker. So, if your tires are showing signs of improper inflation yet
you keep the pressure checked...may be time for a new gauge.

FINAL WORD:
Have you pushed your motorcycle lately? I mean really push it? I can remember
back in the 80's, I had a 1974 CB 750 Honda. It was such an awsome and
dependable machine. Once I ran out of gas about three miles from a gas station
and I knew I could push it. Full of confidence, I actually made it the better part of a
mile when I passed a house where I was offered some lawn mower gas in a jug, I
started up the bike and rode the two miles to the station where I filled up. Now the
road I was on was almost perfectly level and I was young and in good shape.
Moving forward to the 2010's, the 1976 CB 750 I currently own is an expert at
quitting every other time I ride it. In fact, I was humiliated to find out that I have
been picked up on the side of the road so many times my name has been placed
on a scavenger hunt list.
Well I broke down again. I had all the confidence in the world I could push it home
as I was just a little over a mile from home and, all I had to do is make it over the
hill that is 50 yards away and I can coast a full mile to home. I only made it 15
yards. I think I will get a large patch for my jacket that says “SCAVENGER HUNT
GRAND PRIZE”.
