Three bottles of wine from Frank Keery’s cellar. The first bottle is a 2004 DeLisio Australian Shiraz. This
wine gets a 96 point rating which is very high out of a possible 100 points. It is a very big wine, heavy
alcohol content, “thick” texture with a smooth finish. Pairs well with tomato sauce, roasts of beef,
stews, etc. that can stand up to the wine and complement it as opposed to the wine overpowering the
food. The second is a 2000 Chateau La Nerthe. It has a high point rating. It is dryer as most French
wines are but not astringently dry. This wine would pair very well with game, beef, etc. with lots of
tastes of berries, herbs, etc. It, too, will continue to improve for another 10 years or so. The third is a
1998 Chateau de la Gardine, one of the best years for these type wines in over a decade. It can get
better with time if properly stored but is great drinking now. Medium dryness, great with game, beef,
etc., with lots of different tastes of berries, herbs, etc. All of these wines should be opened and/or
poured into a carafe and let sit for at least an hour before drinking. Two hours is even better. These
wines are dramatically better after they have had such breathing time. It really makes a big difference
with these wines that have this much age in the bottle.
