The Union minister of state for

New Delhi would not buckle
under pressure from any
country on carrying out road

Though Rijiju did not take
name of any country, he obviously meant China after
Beijing reacted strongly
against the Centre’s plan to
construct a road along the
border road in Arunachal
Pradesh which shares border
with China.
Speaking to reporters on

“India has to progress taking along the northeast.....," Gogoi.
India has every right to construct roads in remote areas
within its territory even if the
location is close to any international border.
“The roads in border areas
are for the benefit of indigenous people of India. The
roads are within Indian territory and no country should
have any objection to it. We
are free to carry out development work within our
territory,” said Rijiju.
The Minister said the Government would go ahead with
the construction of ‘frontier
highways’ in border areas.
On ushering in investmentconducive climate in the
North East, Rijiju said the
time has come to change the
mindset of people in the region.
“The fact that the protracted
demands
have
remained unaddressed shows
that successive governments
in the region have failed to
thrash out a solution. The respective state governments
must admit this reality. New
Delhi will always support the
positive initiatives in the
northeast,” said Rijiju.
Assam and Meghalaya
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi
and Mukul Sangma also attended the conclave. Meghalaya CM, Mukul Sangma,
and his Assam counterpart,
tried to attract investments in
education, renewable energy
and human resource development in the region.
“India has to progress taking along the northeast.
Today, the region has a suitable climate for investment. In
Guwahati alone, there are
many indicators which show
that there is a positive development as far as investment
is concerned.
Land prices are going up
and five star hotels are coming up in the city.
"The region has a lot of
prospects,” Gogoi said at the
Northeast Infrastructure Conclave organized by PHD
Chamber on Friday.

number and e-mail to investors so that they can directly

Nagaland Chief Minister TR
Zeliang and lone Lok Sabha MP
form the state Neiphiu Rio have
demanded
exemplary
punishment to the perpetrators
of the unprovoked attack on
Naga youths at Sikanderpur
village in Gurgaon on the night
of October 15.
In a letter addressed to
Haryana Chief Minister
Bhupinder Singh Hooda,
Zeliang yesterday made an
earnest appeal to ensure that
the guilty are arrested and
brought to book. He also
urged Hooda to take all steps
to prevent such inhuman acts.
Zeliang said it is a matter
of great disappointment that
people from the North East
region were being subjected
to such attacks. It is indeed a
matter of immense concern
that such acts of racial attacks
continue with impunity, he
said. Expressing concern that
hate crimes against the people
of the north eastern region
were on the rise all over the
country, especially in the
metropolitan cities and the
national capital region, Lok
Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio urged
the Centre to take immediate
action and also undertake all
necessary measures that
would reassure that the citizens of the north eastern
region were equal citizens of
this nation.
Stating that these incidents
of hate crime deserve to be
condemned by every right
thinking citizen, Rio demanded exemplary punishment in the greater interest of
the India's unity and integrity.
"The victims must be appropriately
compensated,
cared for and rehabilitated and
the region must be reassured
or else the consequences of
neglect and inaction will be
detrimental to the national interest of our country," Rio
said.
Rio further urged for the
consideration of the matter in
a serious light. Expressing
disappointment, he said the
NE people are being treated
and attacked like foreign nationals or enemies of the
nation.
