Dear Parent/Caregiver,
We would like to congratulate Ana Barbaric and Nick on the birth of their baby boy and
welcome Henry Nicholas Trevor O'Reilly to the Reddam family. Henry was born on 10th
October weighing 3.565kg and 52cm long. Both Ana and her beautiful son Henry are doing well and we wish them and their families health and happiness.
The Year 9 and Year 10 Music evening on Tuesday and the Year 5 – Year 8 Music evening on Thursday were a wonderful reflection of the depth and quality of the instrumental
programme within the school. Dr. McGregor and his team of teachers and tutors are proud
of the improvement in the standard of these performance evenings from the same time
last year. The time and effort going into this programme from all concerned is paying huge
dividends.
The HSC examinations commenced on Monday with English Paper One with our students
reporting that they were well prepared and enjoyed writing the paper. English Paper Two
on Tuesday was a little different to the norm of the last few years, but once again our students felt that it had gone well. Ancient History and PDHPE on Wednesday both had
curve balls in them but it appears as though our students navigated their way through
these papers with ease. Today the Dance theory paper is being written with next week
being the week of all levels of Mathematics examined. The calm way that our students are
approaching these examinations is a tribute to the great preparation they have received
from their teachers.
Many of our HSC teachers are involved in the marking process of these examinations and
will need to either do itinerant marking at schools around the State, while others mark at
the central venue in Homebush. Either way there are disruptions to their normal teaching
schedules over the next month. Most affected will be Visual Arts, with Laurellen Symonds
away for two weeks as the Senior Itinerant marker of the Art major works. Most other
teachers just need to miss the last lesson of the day, as they make their way to Homebush
to mark. While there are short term frustrations in managing this process at school, the
long term benefits to future HSC students of having teachers who know the system well is
obvious.
The Year 11 Prize giving, Senior Executive Induction and launch of the Platinum Programme on Wednesday evening included a new format, consolidating all three functions
into one evening, thereby elevating the status of all three. It was enjoyed by staff, parents
and students alike and will become a fixture in the Term 4 calendar.

Thursday evening saw the Reddam Theatre Sports team playing their first ever heat of
the Theatre Sports Schools Challenge at The Scots College. Our team of Isabella
Page, Elliot Gibson, Catherine Gu, Mikki Dunkel and Kai Mashimo performed with 8
other schools from around Sydney.
Today the Middle School students are viewing a screening of “Aussie Rules the World”;
a film directed and produced by Michael and Kate McIntyre Clere, parents of Reddam
student Piripi McIntyre Clere in Year 8. The film follows AFL superstar Brett Kirk on an
international mission to save the game. Narrated by award winning actor David Wenham, this film uncovers people’s passion for footy in unexpected corners of the globe.
Many thanks to Kate and Michael for making their movie available for our students to
enjoy.
Have a good week,
Dave Pitcairn

OLIVER THE MUSICAL
This week we started rehearsals on our production of Oliver – and already it
was so good we could have sold seats!
We have a sensational group of people involved in the production – Marcus
and Ellie Bortolli are exceptional voice coaches and all rehearsals this term
will be learning the score under their tuition.
Dr. McGregor will be leading the Musical direction, Liz Collier, Marie Mitris
and Delia Harrington will be doing the choreography and Jo Karney will be
directing.
We are looking for a team of parents to help next year with costumes, makeup and sets so if anyone has some free time and would love to be involved,
please e-mail Jo Karney ([email protected])
Although we have quite a number of students already signed up, it is not too
late to join the cast! We are hoping to involve as many of the incoming Year 7
students next year but the show will be all the more spectacular with as large
a cast as possible.
The commitment is as follows: Once a week (either a Monday OR Wednesday afternoon from 4 – 5.30pm) this term (excluding weeks 7 and 8 in the lead
-up to exams.
Dancers – there will be once a week hour session to be advised.
Next term the show is on at the Seymour Centre from 17 – 20th March. This
means that as we have only five weeks of rehearsals to put on a full scale
musical, there will be both weekend rehearsals as well as afternoon rehearsals. However, not everyone will be needed at every rehearsal. A more
comprehensive list of rehearsal times and dates will be issued towards the
end of this term.
Solo auditions will be held on Tuesday 27th January. Any student interested
in auditioning for a solo part can see Dr. McGregor for the music and they can
start working on the parts in their singing lessons.
If you are interested in signing up to join our already superb cast, please
e-mail Dr. McGregor. ([email protected])
